He dressed quickly, but didn’t bother to eat breakfast before hurrying to school. He didn’t want to be late. When it was his turn to go on stage, Ronald willed his legs to stop shaking. He carefully crossed the stage to stand in front of the microphone. The judge called out a hard five syllable word. Ronald sighed with relief. He knew this one. He also knew the rest of the words and won the spelling bee. evidence from the text ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ Karina did not want her younger sister tagging along to the movies with her tonight. It was supposed to be a night out with just her friends. Karina stomped her foot. It wasn’t fair. Every time she had a chance to go somewhere with her friends, her mom insisted she take Beth with them. Karina was tired of it. Tonight would be different. She’d make sure Beth didn’t get to go. Karina sneaked into the living room and knocked over her mother’s favorite vase. It shattered into several pieces on the floor. She looked around. Good. No one saw her. She slinked out of the room and waited. When her mom came back from the store, Karina told her Beth had been playing ball in the house again. Mom saw the vase on the floor and frowned. “Beth, you are grounded for a week,” Mom shouted. Karina secretly smiled then went to get dressed. She wouldn’t have to take her sister tonight. evidence from the text ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ Carlos knew his neighbor couldn’t afford to pay anyone to mow her yard. The elderly woman didn’t have very much money and she didn’t have any family living close by to help her. He really should help her. She could fall or hurt herself. Carlos sighed and picked up his cell phone. It looked like he’d have to go to the park another day. He said goodbye to his friend, clicked off the phone and hurried over to Mrs. Tucker’s house. “I can do that for you!” Carlos shouted. Mrs. Tucker looked up, her wrinkled faced beading with sweat. “Thank you, Carlos, but I can’t afford to hire you right now.” “No problem.” Carlos grinned. “I need something to do today anyway and this will be great exercise. (Science) Water, water everywhere! The earth is full of water. Some is in the polar ice caps. Some is in the atmosphere. Some is in lakes and rivers, but most of the earth’s water is in the oceans. Water is always on the move! The process in which water circulates between earth and the atmosphere is called the water cycle. Water is a renewable resource because it never disappears. It just simply changes forms. Did you know you are drinking the same water the dinosaurs did when they roamed the earth? Well, you are. This is due to the water cycle. In order for the water from the oceans to reach the atmosphere, it must first be heated by the sun’s energy. The heat from the sun causes the water to evaporate or form a vapor and rise. From there, water is cooled into droplets and forms a cloud. This is called condensation. When the droplets become too heavy for the cloud they fall back to earth as precipitation in the form of rain, sleet, snow or hail. When the water falls back to earth, it collects in rivers, streams, oceans, ice caps etc. This is called collection. Then the process starts right back over. It is a never ending cycle which is good because every living thing needs water to survive. So, then next time you reach for that glass of H2O(water) remember that a T-Rex might have already tasted the cool refreshing liquid first. Name____________________ 1. When clouds become too heavy the water falls back to earth as _____________________ . 2. Some forms of precipitation are __________________________________. 3. A river and lake are examples of the ______________________part of the water cycle. 4. _________________________ is when the sun heats water and turns it into a vapor. 5. __________________________is when water cools and forms clouds. 6.
