Project Options for To Kill a Mockingbird
Projects will be due on ____________



All projects should have a title that is not the title of the book.
Use a project heading on all project options (bottom right hand corner).
Do NOT use pictures from the movie or book covers in or on any of the project options!
These projects will also be graded on aesthetics and neatness.
You may not just print out pictures from the internet.
For each project option, consider the theme of the novel, the setting, the characters, the conflict, and the climax.
a) Create a video movie trailer for To Kill a Mockingbird. You may not simply recreate the original! The trailer must emphasize
what you consider to be the most important aspects and events of the book in a coherent way. A written explanation as to why
specific scenes were selected for the trailer must be included. This should explain why the scenes are essential. Make sure that
the trailer can be played on a PC. Should be no less than a minute and a half and no more than three.
b) Create a scrapbook of significant items, objects and/or events in To Kill a Mockingbird. There must be at least ten items
included. Devote one page to each item (which should contain more than just a picture of the item) and its significance. The
items should be symbolic in nature. Each item must have a detailed caption (at least a paragraph) explaining the significance of
the item in the story. You may not use the gifts from the knothole as individual items.
c) Create a self-help book. Select at least eight quotations from To Kill A Mockingbird which teach a life lesson. Devote one page
to each quote, explaining who said it, the context within the book, and the greater life lesson it is teaching. There must be quotes
by at least five different characters included. In your explanation, make sure to explain how this advice helps Scout as well as
how it could help a person in the world today.
d) Create a soundtrack for To Kill a Mockingbird. The soundtrack should include a cd cover and at least eight songs. You must
have at least three songs for each part of the book. For each song you should discuss why the song was selected in terms of how
it is related to the book. Each song choice explanation must be at least a paragraph. Burn the songs in order on a CD and create
liner notes with the paragraphs.
e) Conduct oral interviews with five different people of varying ages and backgrounds (peer, sibling, teacher, neighbor, etc.)
who have read this book. Design a series of interview questions to ask each of them (no questionnaires) which focus on what
the interviewees tend to remember about the book, why, and how themes of the book have impacted their lives. Interviews
must be videotaped. Turn in a list of the questions, a list of the interviewees with biographical information, and a one page
analysis of your own.
