Principal’s News
Dear SBCE Family,
Wow! This year has flown by. It’s hard to imagine that I am wrapping up my first
year as principal of SBCE. As I reflect on this year, I recall driving on campus
during the summer after being named principal with my family and thinking ‘this
looks like such a sweet school’. I recall feeling very fortunate to have the
opportunity to remain in the Northeast Learning Community and I recall being
overwhelmingly excited to start this journey with all of you and our little Bobcats.
It has truly been MY pleasure to serve you all in this capacity. I am grateful to
each of you for your support this year. Thank you for sharing your time, your
kind words and most of all, your children with me. The students here at SBCE are
delightful and such a joy to interact with on a daily basis. I do believe I am one of
the luckiest people on Earth. After all, I still feel that excitement when I wake up
to come to work because SBCE is just a special place to be.
I’d like to take a moment to wish our 5th graders (soon to be 6th graders) the best
of luck in middle school. I know you all will blossom wherever you are planted
and I know you will make us all so proud. Enjoy your time in middle school. Like
elementary, it will be over before you know it. Be mindful to enjoy the moments
you’re in and just remember to be happy. You will be missed at SBCE but know
you’ve served as great role models for our younger students. Thank you for that!
Enjoy your summer break. You all deserve the rest. I hope you have wonderful
adventures that you can share with me when you return next school year.
My very best to each and every one of you!
My best always,
Bridgette M. Marques

Two Fulton County Schools students emerged as winners in this year’s Young Georgia Authors writing competition, taking top
honors in the regional contest that featured 168 entries.
Katherine Freese, a first-grader at State Bridge Crossing Elementary and Andrew Liang of Johns Creek High will go on to
the state competition. Katherine’s work was titled, The Fairies and Their Captivating Powers; while Andrew’s piece was titled,
Woodrow Wilson’s Legacy: The Whole Truth. English Language Arts coordinators from the Metro Regional Educational
Service Agency (RESA) served as judges for the competition.
The Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition is facilitated by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English (GCTE). The
goals of the competition are to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context

End of the Year Parties
Lost and Found
We are looking forward to some wonderful end of the
year parties. Please remember our school procedures to
make them enjoyable for everyone. Our Family
Handbook states that siblings are not permitted to attend
classroom parties. There are two main reasons for the
rule. First, the parties are for the classroom students
only. All attention should be given to them on their
special day. Secondly, there are safety issues with
having young children in our classrooms. Therefore,
please be aware of this rule for the end of the year
parties. We would hate to have to turn you away on
your child’s special party day. Please adhere to this
rule to best serve our students. Thank you. Also,
please carpool with friends if possible.
Please check the lost and found racks for items your child
may be missing. These racks will be placed in the front
office atrium. If you are unable to come to school, please
remind your child to check for missing items. ALL
ITEMS THAT ARE NOT CLAIMED WILL BE
DONATED TO A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION.
Even if you don’t think you are missing anything, please
check! You might be surprised what you find! The last
day to claim any items will be May 26th at 2:00pm.
Scholastic Reading Counts!
During the summer, students will be able to continue
taking quizzes on SRC thru June and July!
