Belleview High School 10400 SE 36th Avenue Belleview, Florida 34420 (352) 671-6210 http://www.marion.k12.fl.us/schools/bhs/index.cfm Student Name:___________________ BELLEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT HANDBOOK VISION STATEMENT We are committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment as a foundation for the academic, social, and ethical development necessary for each student to become a successful citizen in tomorrow’s society. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS e Respectful * Dress appropriately for a learning environment * Exhibit mutual respect for the rights, privileges, safety, and property of others e Cooperative * Cooperate with the instructor and exert every effort to maximize your potential * Build upon the reputation that Belleview High School’s students are the finest in the county e Responsible * Attend school regularly and be on time * Obtain and complete all work missed due to absence from class e Safe * Conduct oneself at all times in a manner that will allow for the safe and orderly operation of our school Character Traits The faculty and staff of Belleview High School are committed to excellence. Our belief is that high expectations produce high results and we make a daily effort to provide an environment that produces student learning. We all know that the most important members of our educational team are our students. Our students are ultimately responsible for their success. Their responsibility begins with good attendance, moves to class participation and preparation, and includes making quality decisions about their lives. We encourage and emphasize that our students claim their education as their own and use it as a tool to achieve their goals and dreams. Students are expected to be an active stakeholder in their education by exhibiting the core values and character traits: Do What’s Right (Hard Work) Responsibility Attend School Daily. Coming to school every day has the biggest impact on your grades. Complete and turn in every assignment. One zero on an assignment can destroy an entire quarter’s work. Prepare for all tests. Integrity 10 minutes per class of reviewing the day’s work will keep you prepared for tests. Use an agenda planner every day. Stay organized, write down all assignments and important due dates. Don’t let events slip up on you. Have all materials needed for class. Don’t ask to borrow materials from other students or teachers. Check your book bag before coming to school. Put forth your best effort. Try your hardest at everything you do. People always reward effort. When you think it’s the right thing to do, it probably is. Do the right thing. If any student in this school is bothering you, let a teacher know. We are here to look after you and protect you. We do not allow anyone in this school to bully you or make you feel uncomfortable. In return, do not take matters into your own hands; let the adults take care of it. Report any illegal activity that you see. Take ownership for your actions. When you make a mistake own up to it and vow to do better next time. Self-Discipline Perseverance Nothing in life comes easy. Students should set goals that are challenging and maybe just out of reach. They must continually work towards them and remember that failure and mistakes are part of achievement. Creativity Always look for a better way. The world’s greatest inventors often found their success through mistakes. Work smarter not harder. Do What’s Best (Stewardship) Honesty Always tell the truth. No matter what the circumstances, always be honest. After you eat, you will clean up after yourselves. This includes cleaning off the table and making sure you haven’t left any trash on the floor or around the eating area. It is important to be responsible for your trash no matter where you are and to be sure not to litter. If you see trash on the floor, pick it up. Never step over trash or kick it out of the way. If it is too messy, report it to an adult. Charity Give back whenever you can. “Pay it forward” you never know if the day will come when you need assistance. Charity does not just mean money. Your time and effort is usually more helpful than cash. Tolerance Don’t be quick to judge. All people are different; they come from different backgrounds and may do things differently. Listen carefully before making remarks about someone or how they are doing something. Have patience when dealing with others. People may not move at the same pace as you. Understand that the world does not revolve around you. Loyalty Stand behind your community and school The community you live in and the school you attend is yours, never talk bad about it, and give it support whenever possible. Remember your roots and who helped you get this far in life. Uphold the school standards on and off campus. Wherever you go people relate you to our school. Our goal is for them to think we are the best school they have ever seen. Always keep your word. When you say you’re going to do something, do it. Don’t make people guess what your actions are going to be. Be dependable. Treat Others The Way You Want To Be Treated (Hospitality) Respect Be on time to class. Showing up late is disrespectful of other people’s time. Arriving late doesn’t represent good manners. Have a positive attitude. Thankfulness When someone of authority asks you to do something, there is to be no moaning or complaining. (Homework, chores, etc.) Be kind to others. Use the appropriate tone and language. During discussions, respect other students’ comments, opinions, and ideas. Respond appropriately to adults. You should always answer by saying “Yes” or “No” in a polite manner. Just nodding your head or saying any other slang is not acceptable. Do not smack your lips, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures. When passing by an adult always look them in the eyes and greet them by saying “hello”. Follow instructions the first time given. Try to never make a person repeat themselves because you were not listening. Always lend a helping hand and, “do the right thing”. “Please” and “Thank You” will open many doors. Always congratulate classmates on their accomplishments. Be gracious in both winning and losing. When you receive something, don’t insult the gift or giver. Surprise others by doing a random act of kindness. When we go somewhere, always thank those at the place we visited. Our goal is to be the best group they have ever seen.
