MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE – MAY 30, 2016
In remembrance of those members of the United States Armed Forces who have paid the
ultimate sacrifice while serving their country, the Ellettsville Police Department participated in
the Memorial Day service held at Memorial Park on Monday, May, 30, 2016. Chief Jimmie
Durnil was one of the speakers during the service. The department would like to thank the
Ellettsville Parks Board, Dr. Lloyd DeWar, and Boy Scout Troop 119 for their assistance with
the service.
TRAFFIC STOP FOR THEFT WARRANT LEADS TO FELONY DRUG
ARREST – MAY 18, 2016
On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, around 5:30 PM, Officer Zachary Michael recognized an orange
Ford Ranger as the vehicle driven by a subject who was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant for
theft. Officer Michael recognized Justin Snapp, age 28, of Bloomington, Indiana as the driver
and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 5000 Block of West State Road 46. Officer
Chaudion of the Ellettsville Police Department arrived to assist. During an inventory search of
the vehicle, a metal spoon that had burn marks on the bottom was found, along with a
hypodermic needle, and small plastic bag containing a gray, solid rock-like substance that later
tested positive for Opiates with a field identification test kit.
Justin Snapp was arrested and transported to Monroe County Correctional Facility and booked
on a charge of Possession of a Narcotic Drug under I.C. 35-48-4-6, a Level 6 Felony and the
original Misdemeanor Warrant for Theft.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY LEADS TO ARREST FOR DRUGS AND GUNS –
MAY 12, 2016
On Thursday, May 12, 2016, shortly
after 5:00 AM, Officer Alec Leggio
was assisting Monroe County in a
separate incident when he came upon a
female driver sitting in a black Ford
SUV, bearing Colorado license plates,
parked in the roadway at the
intersection of Deer Run and
Tecumseh Drive in Ellettsville with the
motor off and lights out. As Officer
Leggio pulled up to the vehicle, the
driver started the vehicle and started to
take off. Officer Leggio instructed the
driver to stop and made contact with
her. The driver was identified as
Kachaira Goode, 26 years of age, of
Denver, Co. Miss Goode claimed to be
dropping off a friend at a nearby
residence. A second female arrived on
foot and was identified as Angelica
Vega, 21 years of age, of Clovis, New
Mexico. She advised that she had been
the passenger in the SUV.
After smelling the strong odor of
marijuana, a search of the vehicle was
performed by Officer Leggio and
Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, who arrived to assist. As a result of the
search, approximately 652 grams of marijuana were found. This equates to almost one and onehalf pounds. There were also two loaded handguns, one under the driver's seat and one in the
glove compartment. One of the guns was a 9 mm and the other was a .45 caliber.
Kacahaira Goode and Angelica Vega were each transported to the Monroe County Correctional
Center and booked on the following charges:
1. Dealing in Marijuana, I.C. 35-48-4-10, a Level 6 Felony,
2. and Carrying a Handgun without a license, I.C. 35-47-2-23, a Class A Misdemeanor.
BLOOMINGTON FAITH LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL CLASS VISIT –
MAY 11, 2016
On Wednesday, May 11, 2016 the Ellettsville Police Department hosted the Faith Lutheran
multi-age pre-school class' field trip. Chief Jimmie Durnil and Officer Jared Myers gave the
children a tour of the police department and spoke about general safety, such as what number to
call in an emergency and to seek an adult if there is danger. The children were also given the
opportunity to sit in Officer Myers' police car.
