Go Fish!

Set up this fun game by having each pair of students cut 20 index
cards in half to create 40 game cards. Next, have the pair program
20 cards with current vocabulary words. Then have the students use a
thesaurus to program the remaining cards with one synonym for each
vocabulary word.
To play the game, Player A shuffles the deck and then deals five
cards to each player. The remaining cards are placed in a center pile.
Player B asks Player A if she has a synonym for one of the cards in his
hand. If Player A does not have the matching card, she tells Player B
to “Go Fish.” Player B then draws one card from the center pile. If the
card drawn is a match for one of the cards in his hand, Player B sets the
pair aside. If it is not a match, he keeps the card with the rest of his
hand. Player A then takes a turn in
the same manner. The player with

Finding Words
On a sheet of construction paper, have each student
draw a 10 x 10 square grid as shown. Then have the student
label the top of the page with a spelling or vocabulary word.
On the back of the paper, the student lists three synonyms
and three antonyms for his chosen word. Then the student
writes his six words in the grid and then fills in the rest
of the empty squares with random letters.
