LEAD-FREE ARMATURE BRASS As Sarbak Metal, our sensitivity regarding human health and environment required the technological investments relevant to the lead-free brass to be used in water armatures and the production of Federalloy with bismuth content with American, European etc. patents. This way, lead, which has carcinogen effect on the products which are closely related to human health such as water armatures, is excluded from the alloy. ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT BENEFITS OF FEDERALLOY USAGE FOR THE ENTERPRISES In the products which are produced by Federalloy, lead rate in the air is less than 10 micrograms/cubic meter at work periods of 8 hours and since it is below 30 micrograms / cubic meter there is no lead penetration into blood. Since the lead rate in the air is below 50 micrograms / cubic meter at work periods of 8 hours, it is not obligatory for the foundry workers to use ventilation equipment. Carcinogen effects are completely eliminated with lead-free production. When Federalloy is melted, the toxic substance quantity originating from the lead in the mould sand is below 1 ppm. Due to this, mould sand cannot be classified as hazardous material and waste disposal cost is minimized. TECHNICAL REASONS OF FEDERALLOY’S SUCCESS Lead melts at a low temperature such as 327 °C and does not dissolve in brass visually. Due to these characteristics, lead was used for a long time in brass casting. Lead’s role in brass casting is that it fills in the micro gaps in the structure of the alloy and provides structure firmness. Addition of brass to the brass alloy increases its processing capability. But lead also has toxic effects. Bismuth melts at 271°C and it comes after lead in the periodic table. Since it has similar physical characteristics to lead it is a perfect alternative to lead. The discriminative characteristics between bismuth and lead are; lead is soft and ductile, but bismuth is hard and brittle. As a result of the works conducted with Federalloy alloys, homogenous distribution of bismuth all over the alloy is provided. This characteristic eliminated brittleness problem of bismuth and . Carcinogen effect to to the presence of lead is eliminated. ENTERPRISE FRIENDLY FEDERALLOY Casting temperature influences the characteristics of the alloy in leaded brass when casting large or small parts. With Federalloy alloy casting is possible at temperatures higher than leaded brass, but the casting quality is still the same. Since Federalloy has a structure which does not evaporate, the alloy is in a structure that is easy to calibrate and calculate. Federalloy has a crystal structure that is better than leaded brass in rough casting Since Federalloy alloys require less sanding periods, they have less surface cleaning costs. Homogenous distribution of bismuth in Federalloy alloys facilitates the polishing of the product and as a result bright and polished appearance is obtained. Homogenous distribution of bismuth in Federalloy alloys also provides a better surface. It gives a a better processing capability than leaded brass and due to this, its processing cost is less. 27.05.2008 . Merkez : Arapcami Mah.Galata Mahkemesi Sok.Nafe Han.
