1. Domaine Sigalas Assyrtiko-Athiri 2013 - Santorini, Greece
This is a delightful marriage of two grapes that are indigenous to Santorini: the Assyrtiko
variety, intense, earthy, and clearly expressing the volcanic island soil; and the more
aromatic, quince-scented Athiri variety. Athiri is believed to be a parent of the fascinating
Ribolla Gialla grape, which is found mostly in Italy. As is the custom on Santorini, the vines
are trained in basket shapes to protect the fruit from the intense wind. It’s an elegant
way of extracting great fruit from a wild landscape, and when you taste this wine, you’ll
be very glad they figured it out. Try with shrimp in herb sauce.
2. Vigneau Chevreau Vouvray 2013 - Loire Vally, France
Vouvray Sec is a natural choice for sushi, grilled seafood, or as an aperitif.
The Demi-Sec will complement richer fish and chicken dishes, as well as spicy Asian
or Southwestern cuisine. The wine can also be served with foie gras, charcouterie or
strong cheeses, particularly blue cheese.
3. Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc 2013 - Marlborough, New Zealand
Presenting lovely citrus notes and plenty of fresh herbs, elderflower and straw, the medium-bodied 2013 Voyage Sauvignon Blanc has great texture in the mouth with a lively acid
backbone complimenting the densely packed citrus and herbs flavors before finishing long.
