Vision Courage Integrity
Dear Linda,
"It's not how much we give
but how much love we put into giving."
Baby, it's cold outside! After record setting singleday snow fall, the sun came out and the
temperature plummeted to 0. Still well above the
cut-off for outside recess (-10). Phew. No one
wants to give up a fresh snow and bright sunshine
recess!

TOAST THE SEASON
BOND STYLE
Service Day and the joy of giving has become a tradition
at PNA, and this year was no exception!
Students spent the day in multi-age groups and worked
on projects benefiting different groups in Anchorage.
Projects included making holiday ornaments for the
senior citizens at Daybreak Elderly Home, putting
together Beanie Boxes filled with helpful items to be
passed out at Bean's Café, assembling Soups-In-A-Jar
for Catholic Social Services' Food Pantry, making fleece
blankets gifted to Anchorage School District's Title 1
Program, caroling and a cookie exchange at a
neighboring assisted living home, and baking dog treats
for the pooches at the Animal Care and Control Center.
Students, teachers and volunteers alike appreciated the
idea of helping those in need and had a lot of fun doing
so.
What was most evident throughout the day? The comfort
and camaraderie that comes along with committing acts
of kindness and good will.
A pair of Bond's preferred thirst quenchers

good for people (and pups!) they will never know? PNA
kids, teachers, parents and friends, of course!

Be There.
Pendulum
5th grade observed what lengthening the
string of a pendulum does to the frequency
of its swing per minute.
The problem with making 84 jars of ready-to-cook mixed
bean soup? It smells so good, and makes us hungry.
Hand written holiday greetings (and the recipe for the
soup!) are sure to warm the heart of its lucky recipient.
Cooper and Agustin are mind melding? No.
One holds the pendulum, the other counts,
and Soren keeps track of the timer.
Completing the circuit
Given a D battery, two pieces of wire and a
light bulb, 4th graders see if they can make
light. You feel very powerful once you
figure out how to make the battery power
flow to the bulb.
Ms. Lauren demonstrates proper bow placement
technique, and Sydney gives it a try.
Velocity
How much does Sasha love helping others and
committing random acts of kindness? THIS MUCH!
Névé watches her car, loaded with clay, fly
off the counter. 7th and 8th grade timed
how long it took different masses to move a
certain distance.
Graphing
Lots of graphing going on this week in the
classrooms!
Rachel and Lilith take their blanket for a test snuggle. It
totally passes inspection.
3rd grade graphed their reading logs,
getting a visual of how much they read
each night. From here, the'll find their
averages.
Tying little knots over and over is a labor of kindness in
itself...
7th and 8th have been plotting their
findings from their velocity experiments.
Aidan consults with Ms. B.
Bones and Brains
Joaquin checks the firmness of his own
skull. Yes, solid. And most definitely a brain
within!
...doing so with a smile certainly adds to the warmth.
How to make a Beanie Boxes: First, decorate it...
Steady Circulation
That is one loud pump in there.
Notable Quotes
Blessed is the season that engages the
whole world in a conspiracy of love.

Just One More....
Ms. Hoefer is out of Alaska, out of the snow and cold, and out of
the land of really short days in December. The upside to this
(besides her presumed tan of course)? She left the last letter of
the year to me!
Service Day is a favorite day of mine at PNA. Getting to
spend the morning cutting, gluing, glittering, mixing,
rolling, stirring, cooking, measuring, wrapping,
unwrapping, snipping, tying, taping, and finishing it off
with a pretty bow is just plain fun. This year, it was my job
to capture it in pictures - ideal for my ever shortening
attention span. As I went from from activity to activity,
snapping away, I noticed that kids and adults alike were
happy, really happy. Happy to be working with their
friends and buddies, making something for people they
didn't even know. The only complaint I heard out of 120
people in an hour and a half? "This soup mix is making
me hungry - the spices smell so good. I really want to
have my snack now!"

of this epic sledding wipe out - See?
Being an independent school in a city with an abundant
array of education choices is not easy. As a current and
alumni parent, a past employee and a volunteer, I have
seen from all aspects how committed PNA is to providing
a high quality learning environment for our children. From
the volunteer Board of Trustees to part-time instructors in
EDP, people work really hard to create a place that
is enriching, accessible, and safe for families from all
over. I love the emphasis PNA places on unifying my
child with the community outside of our school, and I am
grateful for the opportunity I continue to have to be a part
of that process.
On behalf of the faculty, the staff, and volunteers here at
the FUNd Stuff, happy Winter Break! We hope you enjoy
your family and friends and the holiday season - we will
see you next year!
Sincerely,
Jennie
