WORK TIMES: 2 days a week at Jaguar Land Rover, Castle

SNAPSHOT:
Name: Darnell Pinnock – Apprentice
Start date: October 2015
Qualifications: Studied NVQ Installation
Level 2 at College
WORK TIMES:
2 days a week at Jaguar Land Rover, Castle
Bromwich
2 days a week at Actemium Birmingham
1 day a week at College (Fridays)
BACKGROUND:
16-18 years old: First year collage studying NVQ Installation Level 2, second year JTL Learning
course at College.
18+ years: Actemium Apprentice (4 + years to become Qualified Electrician)
1) How is the apprenticeship progressing so far?
Really enjoying the apprenticeship so far, being able to get involved straight away
applying my theory into practice is an added bonus to the electrician NVQ before I
joined. I am working 2 days a week on site and 2 days a week in the BU, so it is
interesting for me to take in the responsibilities of my job, every Friday I attend my
course.
2) Which locations or sites have you been to?
Two different areas at the moment; Jaguar Land Rover site with Fittings/Cable
Fittings and also Actemium Birmingham with the installation of LED
panels/Emergency Fittings.
3) Describe a typical day on site for you including the types of tasks you get involved in?
A typical day for me would be to meet with my team, read the work plans and be
allocated areas by my site supervisor. After I prepare my PPE and kit I would proceed
to do the job, this would most likely be within fitting cables, fittings or data cables.
Once finished I would then complete all paperwork and tidy the work area.
4) What skills are you learning at college on Friday’s?
Being able to utilise and improve skills such as communication, team work, listening,
working with others, measuring’s, group work enabling me to succeed in the
workplace.
5) What do you enjoy the most about your apprenticeship?
Being able to use the theory that has been taught at college and apply it into
practical work either on site or at the Actemium Birmingham BU. I particularly like
the “hands-on” work at Jaguar Land Rover via Fittings/Cable Fittings on site and also
at Actemium Birmingham for LED fittings within the office, including installation of
LED panels/emergency fittings.
5) What career aspirations do you have?
I would like to climb the ladder to become a qualified electrician at first, then
eventually moving onto Electrical Sector Manager but I am also persuaded towards
creating my own Electrical fit-out business.
Our business continues to develop and
we are looking to attract new people
who share our values of first class
customer service and career
development.
