SteamFest 2017 is proudly brought to you by the Redwater Creek Steam & Heritage Society Inc., the Tasmanian Tractor Pulling & Vintage Tractor Association and a huge number of volunteers.
We would not be able to bring you this event without
our great team of tireless and committed volunteers as
well as our generous sponsors.
We are very pleased to announce that the 23rd SteamFest will be opened by The Hon Will Hodgman MP Premier of Tasmania. The Opening will take place at
2.00 pm on Saturday near the Miniature Railway at
Spring Street.
Winners will be contacted by phone if not in attendance.
SURVEY - This must be completed if you are entering the competition.
President’s Welcome
Did you know Tasmania has the
highest percentage of volunteers of
any Australian state?
This year we have named our site and the attraction
we are creating to reflect our locality and its historic
links with the community the site is now called “The
Sheffield Steam and Heritage Centre”. We have a vision to expand this Centre into a 7 days a week Heritage Tourist attraction that will benefit the whole community. Redwater Creek Steam and Heritage Society
remains the name of our incorporated association.
And that volunteers provide an economic benefit to their community?
We were all chuffed when Volunteering Tasmania
recognized one of our volunteers life long efforts to
preserve steam and build the Sheffield Steam and
Heritage Centre at the 2016 Inaugural State Volunteer
Awards. Peter Martin won the top award in Tasmania
- the Premiers Volunteer of the Year Award for his
selfless dedication to our cause and vision.
Please take the time to complete the survey at the rear
of this programme to help us grow the event into the
future.
Thank you for coming and supporting SteamFest. We
hope you enjoy our community event which takes you
on a journey back in time. Communities were close
in the steam era; they had to be. I am very proud of
what our SteamFest community has achieved here to
allow you to “Live the Past.”
We hope you enjoy our 23rd event.
Chris Martin
Chairman, SteamFest Organising Committee and
President, Redwater Creek Steam and Heritage Society Inc.
Sheffield Steam and Heritage Centre
is just one organization benefitting
from volunteers.
Look at SteamFest and the ongoing
development on this site - all of
which is due to thousands of hours
by very few volunteers.
And I haven’t even mentioned the
benefits to volunteers themselves.

What colour is this one today?
Did you know that Sheffield Steam and
Heritage Centre is the only Work for the
Dole programme in the Kentish area.
ANSWER
SWEET RUNNING MACHINES DOCUMENTARY
Three days a week MY PATHWAY participants
attend the Centre and are supervised by Lizard
Cannell and Graham Shoesmith. Over the past
two years they have been instrumental in many
of the improvements that you see around the
site. Look at that beautiful new white picket
front fence. Well done!!
The characters and unique personalities of Kentish hit the big screen at SteamFest 2015 with the showing of the 75 minute documentary.
The documentary may be about steam machinery but the quirky and colourful
characters of Kentish and North West Tasmania turn it into something truly
unique. The documentary was the Official Selection for the 2015 BOFA Film
Festival.

FAREWELL to a treasured friend.
It is with some sadness that we farewell the Hornsby Ackroyd Tractor. This is by far the most significant item that has
been on display as a regular at SteamFest. One of three built, it is recognized as the world’s first Tractor - only two
remaining in the world. It marks the transition from steam power to diesel. Designed in England in 1895 they were
sold to Australia around 1906 .The engine has hot bulb ignition with a single cylinder with piston diameter 13.5 inches
and stroke of 19 inches. It ran on light oil or perfin and has 3 speeds and runs about 200rpm weighing in at 7 tons. The
flywheel ways 1.5 tons. Warren Seybourne of Dover (Tas) has purchased the engine— so we may see it again.
THE MINIATURE RAILWAY IS OPEN
Over the past 6 months, the Miniature Railway has gone from planning to reality and it is being launched on
11.03.2017. The track is a 400 metre oval and both 71/4 and 5 inch gauge trains can run on it. Thank you to
the team of people who constructed
this great little track.

Steam train rides — the first full weekend of

will also be running on the Sunday of that same
weekend.
