For the week of May 31, 2015 “Not Just For Today” Big Idea: Leave a great legacy for your children and grandchildren. Scripture: Titus 2 1. In which area(s) of your life behind closed doors do you need the most endurance? 2. Are you currently doing anything in your family life that might be “maligning the Word of God” to an outside world? 3. Paul writes, “encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good.” How are you potentially setting a poor example for your children or grandchildren? 4. Paul encourages the following characteristics: Teach sound doctrine, temperate, worthy of respect, selfcontrolled, sound in faith, loving, enduring, reverent, not slanderers, not addicted to alcohol, loyalty, integrity, serious, soundness of speech, trustworthy. Which of these characteristics do you fall short of most often? 5. How does grace teach me “to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age?” In other words, how does God’s grace enable me to do what is very difficult to do at times? 6. Read 1 Samuel 8:1-5. This passage proves that one can love God and be used mightily by Him, yet have children who do not follow the Lord. What are your thoughts on this passage? 7. Read Proverbs 29:17. Describe your method of disciplining your children and how have you seen peace as a result of it? 8. What is one thing you can do this week to begin to change how your life will echo in the lives of your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren? More passages on parenting: Proverbs 22:6, Proverbs 13:24, Proverbs 1:8-9
