There have been prolonged debates over death sentence in many countries that these should be banned or not.
But very little do we know about the torture methods used by some of the governments in the past. These
techniques were so horrible and disturbing that no one would dare to see it happening right before him. Let us
look at some of the most hideous and unthinkable torture techniques.

1. Necklacing
Necklacing is a horrific torture that involves forcing a rubber tire filled with gasoline around the victim's chest
and arms and then setting it on fire. The victims suffer severe burns in the process. In South Africa, Nigeria, and India necklacing was a common torture method carried out by angry mobs.
2. The Rack
The rack is a torture device which consists of a rectangular platform which is slightly raised from the ground
level and a roller at both ends. The victim is asked to lay down on the rectangular platform with his ankles
fastened and wrists chained on both the ends. Gradually, the rollers are used to increase the tension which
induces excruciating pain to the victim. Once, the fibers nbsp;are stretched excessively they lose their capacity
to contract and thus making them ineffective.
3. Rat in a bucket
Rats do anything to escape from an uncomfortable situation and tortures use this knowledge to the best of their
use. A bucket is placed upside down on the victims belly and rats are kept inside the bucket. Red hot charcoals
are then placed on the bucket which produces a lot of heat inside the bucket and making it unbearable for the
rats inside the bucket. The only way out is by eating the human flesh and yes rats do it.
4. Head Crusher
It's said that this device was exclusively German and was made by the Germans. This instrument has a metal plate which is set below the victim's jaw and is connected by a frame to the head cap. As the torturer slowly
pushes the head cap down by using the handle, the gap between the plate and the head cap decreases which
causes crushing of the head and the facial bones. The victim dies within 5 seconds of the torture.
5. The German Chair
It is a form of torture which is often used by the Syrian Government against the rebels. The victim is placed on a
chair. Their legs and arms are secured to the seat while the back of the chair is pulled up and down which cause
intolerable pain to the victims spine, neck, and other limbs often causing permanent damage.
6. Flaying
Flaying, also termed as skinning uses different methods to peel off the human skin. The common form of flaying
is by using a knife. In some cases, the skin is peeled slowly and gradually to increase the pain inflicted on the
victim. What's left is a still living person with exposed muscles, ligaments, and bones. A person can live up to few
hours or utmost a day without the skin with an unbearable pain.
7. Impalement
Impalement was one of the most gruesome ways of dying. The arms and legs are strapped to the ground by
pegs making the person immobile and then a large oiled wooden stick is gradually forced into the body usually
into the anus. They make sure that the stick is not sharpened in order to prevent them from dying too early.
There were many instances when victims were impaled through other bodily organs like the abdomen or chest.
Infants were impaled through their mother's body. The pole was then erected making the victim slide by his own
weight.
8. Brazen bull
The brazen bull is a torture and execution device used in the ancient Greece. Naked victims were placed inside a
long brass bull statue after cutting their tounges. The torturers then light the fire below the bull and burn the
person inside alive. The screams of the people cannot be heard due to the strong metal covering. The only
opening was from the bulls mouth through which came the smoke of the person cooking inside. Depending on
the intensity of the heat the prisoner can survive anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
9. Judas Cradle
The Judas Cradle was a pyramid shaped wooden or metal structure and the victim was forced to sit on it. The
victim was tied with a harness and was forcefully pushed downwards through the anus which caused
unimaginable pain and suffering. Victims were taken on and off the structure in order to increase the pain.
10. Tucker Telephone
loThe Tucker Telephone was invented by Dr. A.E Rollins, who was the resident physician at the Tucker State
Prison Farm in the 1960s. It was designed by using old parts of a crank telephone. The electric generator of the
telephone was wired in sequence to two dry cell batteries so that the telephone can be used to administer
electric shocks to another person. If someone in the prison told you that you'll be having a long-distance call
then it was the devils call which meant you'll be given several shocks on the Tucker Telephone!!
