Woman accepts marriage proposal
in the form of ad in Butte paper
Make Your Heart
By KATHLEEN J. BRYAN
Montana Standard
BUTTE — Jaimee Pafhausen said yes.
The 22-year-old Butte
native knew her boyfriend, Chuckie Richards,
would pop the question
one day. She just didn’t
know when.
On Saturday morning, barely awake and still
in bed, Pafhausen spied
Richards pacing the loor
of their room at Fairmont
Hot Springs. The couple
was celebrating Pafhausen’s recent graduation
from the University of
Montana.
She said Richards, 23,
handed her Saturday’s
edition of The Montana
Standard, saying, “There’s
something pretty cool in
the paper.”
“He was by my bedside
on his knee,” Pafhausen
said, as she read his words,
“Will you Marry Me???” in
an ad framed with hearts
and a picture of the couple.
“So what do you say?”
Richards asked.
“Yes!” Pafhausen replied.
The sweethearts then
hugged and shared a kiss.

Jaimee Pafhausen, 22, shows
of her new ring with her
iance, Chuckie Richards, 23, at
her side.
Pafhausen cried.
The engagement ring
with three diamonds represents their past, present
and future — apropos given the two started dating
as teens in Butte, sharing a
love of sports among other
interests.
Richards said the timing was perfect for his proposal, though he admitted
to feeling nervous.
“We’ve been dating for
eight years. We never ight
and get along really well,”
he said. “It’s perfect, the
time is right.”
Richards, a warehouse
manager for Summit Beverage in Missoula, said he
had been thinking a lot
about the proposal and had
100 diferent ideas, including a billboard ad on the
interstate. But an ad in his
hometown paper clicked,
and with his dad’s help, the
plan was set in motion.
Pafhausen said the
couple had talked about
marrying for about a year.
They looked at rings in December. She thought the
proposal would happen at
one of their “go-to spots,”
like the drive-in outside
Rocker, where they spent
many a summer’s night.
But on Saturday, Pafhausen said Richards “did
very well.”
“I had no idea. It’s very
awesome,” she gushed.
The couple has a lot to
celebrate. Pafhausen’s acceptance into Paciic University’s graduate program
in physical therapy entails
an end-of-summer move
to Portland, Ore. A wedding date, she said, is hard
to plan at the moment.
“It feels pretty surreal.
I’m excited and anxious,
and I can’t wait to see what
life has to bring us,” Pafhausen said.
Colorado woman killed, 2 injured in
I-25 rollover south of Buffalo, Wyo.
By DEREK BROUWER
[email protected]
A 26-year-old Colorado woman has died
and two others are injured after their car
crashed on Interstate 25 south of Bufalo,
Wyo., late Sunday.
Rebecca Carlson of Fountain, Colo., was
a passenger in a Nissan Altima that drifted
of the southbound lanes around 15 miles
south of Bufalo, according to a Wyoming
Highway Patrol release.
The car’s driver and a 5-year-old child
were also injured in the crash, which occurred around 10 p.m. Sunday, the release
stated. Their conditions were unknown
Monday evening.
Carlson was not wearing a seat belt when
the crash occurred. The child was using a
booster seat but was improperly restrained,
the release stated.
The driver, 31-year-old Colorado man
Mark Ticehurst, swerved the car back
across the pavement into the median before
overcorrecting a second time. The last turn
sent the car into the air, causing it to roll.
Carlson and the child were ejected from the
vehicle.
Carlson was taken by ground ambulance
to Bufalo, then lown to Wyoming Medical
Center in Casper, where she died.
Ticehurst was cited for improper lane
use and for not having the child properly
restrained, according to the release. Driver
fatigue and inattention are being investigated as possible causes of the crash.
