Lion Sajitha de Mel
ion Sajitha De Mel was inducted
as the President of the Lions
Club of Nugegoda, Central at
the Induction Ceremony held on 27

Z. Gunasekera.
De Mel is the Marketing Manager
of the UCL Logistics, (Pvt) Ltd. a member of Expolanka, Group.
He is a past pupil of Wesley
College, where he was Deputy Head
Prefect in 2003 and 2004. His excellent
leadership qualities helped him to be
appointed to this position within one
year of service as a Lion.
Talking to Sajitha, he told me that
when he was in school he played,
cricket and chess. He has represented
L
Sajitha in Thailand
Sri Lanka at Asian Junior Chess
Championships and was placed way
up among 90 competitors, and also
won chess colours.
Coming to his next love basketball
– captained the Under-13 team and
went on to represent the school at the
highest level. At the moment he is in
the final stage of his Post Graduate,
Diploma in Marketing. He says he is
very happy in his job and has 100% job
satisfaction.
When asked whether this was his
1st job - he said “No.” He was a banker
first at Standard Chartered Bank and
HSBC, 2nd at Dellogistics and then at
Hemas.
Not bad for this youngster to have
worked at so many places within a
short period of time.
Well, from here, what next? “Well
I’ve been asked to develop this particular company and I’m working towards
achieving this goal. I’m confident I
will be able to do so.
Q: What are your outside activities?
A: I love social service. I’m heavily
involved in church matters and was
the President of the Youth Fellowship.
Q. What do you do in your spare
time?
A: Well I like to take it easy, so I go
out with friends, go on picnics, go to a
movie at times and so on - well anything that comes my way I grab it!
He likes to dance, go for parties.
Talking of dancing, he likes to do the
‘Baila’ which is my favourite dance
too. So maybe sometime I will do the
‘Baila’ with him.
Incidentally, he is a six footer and
personally, I like to dance with tall
guys.
Actually, the saying goes; ‘Thin and
tall loved by all’. Oh no. I can’t say that
because a little bird flitting around my
garden whispered that he has a girl
friend; “yes, he has a Kandy ‘Lamissi’.
When I asked him if what this bird
told me was true, he smiled a shy smile
and with a ‘Hora’ look said; “Yes.” So.
that’s it. His parents Suvendra and
Swarna have given him the green light

so there is no problem and everything
is okay and later in this year wedding
bells will ring for Sajitha and
Manesha and they will say I do. Lovely
isn’t it?
He has one older brother, Srihan
who is married and both of them are
Lions too.
One more thing to be mentioned is
that he is No I grade actor - actually he
specializes in acting the post of a
“Silly Guy” acting more or less a little
bit on the foolish side - waving his long
hands in front of him looking nervous
as ever.
I’ve acted with him too and it is
good fun. I think he is fit to move on to
the silver screen and end up, a star in
teledramas, etc.
Well Sajitha I’ve sung your praise.
Actually, there is nothing bad I could
say about you. Yes, you are a boy with
a lot of talent, brains and you are aiming high -that’s the spirit. Move on - do
well and here’s wishing you a bright
future in your career and in leadership.
I wish you and Manesha a very
happy married life.
