RELIEF SUPPORT WORKERS – BURY FLOATING SUPPORT
TO WORK AS AND WHEN REQUIRED
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE: Support Workers will be accountable to
the Manager.
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
(a)
Under the direction of the Projects Manager, the Support Worker will
facilitate the reintegration of the tenant in the community, to participate
in programmes which encourage improvement in everyday living skills
of individual tenants and to provide practical assistance to tenants in
everyday living matters.
(b)
To respond to the immediate needs of tenants; when the Senior staff
are unavailable, this will necessitate liaison with Praxis Care Senior
Management.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Praxis Care Support Workers are expected, in support of a philosophy of
treatment which includes dignity and respect for all persons and
ensuring confidentiality:Tenants
(i)
To act as part of a team in the preparation, implementation and
ongoing review of programmes of activities based on each
tenants' individual needs.
(ii)
To assist with the preparation of accommodation prior to the
tenant moving in.
To participate in tasks designed to enable tenants toward their
goals for independent living. This will include assisting and
supporting tenants in carrying out daily tasks such as cleaning,
cooking and laundry.
(iii) To contribute to review panel meetings.
(iv) To be involved in preparing and serving meals as required.
(v)
To ensure tenants' opinions and suggestions are listened to and
their personal problems dealt with in a sensitive manner.
(vi) To encourage the independence of and respect the privacy and

dignity of tenants at all times.
(vii) To ensure tenants' medication is held / stored and administered in
accordance with Praxis Care’s Medication Policy.
(viii) To monitor tenants ongoing dealings with social services and
statutory bodies and assist where necessary.
(ix) To give emergency help and assistance of a neighbourly kind in
the case of illness or accident until appropriate help (eg Doctor)
can be obtained.
(x)
To act in a friendly and sympathetic manner toward the tenants'
relatives whilst ensuring confidentiality for the tenant.
(xi) To facilitate friendly relationships with neighbours in the vicinity of
the Praxis accommodation, as appropriate.
(xii) To be aware of who to contact in an emergency situation.
(xiii) To respond to the immediate needs of the tenants, in the absence
of Senior staff.
(xiv) Support Service Users in carrying out personal care

It may be, on rare occasions, that an employee is faced with a
potential risk situation. The Organisation will ensure that
appropriate training in calming and diffusing and break-away
techniques will be given to help alleviate any personal risk. This
training should be given within the first six months of employment.
Administration
(i)
To keep daily records of work carried out and submit to the Senior
Staff.
(ii)
To write up weekly assessments of individual tenants' progress.
(iii) To report any changes in or concerns about individual tenants to
the Senior Staff.
(iv) To facilitate good communication.
(v)
To have an awareness of Praxis Care Policy.

Meetings and Training
(i)
To attend a regular staff meeting with the Projects Manager and
Support Worker team to review and plan work.
(ii)
To attend monthly individual supervision meetings with the Senior
Staff.
(ii)
To participate in in-service training.
Accommodation / Health and Safety
(i)
To be aware of and act in accordance with Praxis Care’s Health
and Safety Policy.
(iii) To conduct all activities in a manner which is safe to yourself and
others.
(iv) To have an awareness of registration and inspection unit
standards
(iv) To report the need for repairs or maintenance in accommodation.
(v)
To participate in the cleaning rota for all common areas and staff
flats and to ensure agreed standards are maintained.
(vi) Have an awareness of good food hygiene practices.
(vii) Carry out moving and handling techniques as per training.
Volunteering/Fundraising
(I)
Praxis Care is a charitable organisation that is supported in its work by
volunteers/fundraisers throughout the community. There is an expectation that
employees will volunteer for at least one event per year, in their own time to
assist our service users or fundraising department.
General
(i)
To carry out other duties as directed by the Projects Manager.
(ii)
To take part in fundraising events organised by the Praxis Care
Appeals Officer.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
1.
Location
The post holder will initially be required to work in Bury Floating
Support.
Responsibility is on the employee to ensure that when using your car in the
course of employment, that proper business insurance cover is acquired, and
that your car is maintained in a roadworthy condition. A mileage allowance
will be payable by the Organisation towards expenses.

Salary
Relief Salary is £7.54 per hour.

Hours of Work
Relief staff will work on an as and when required basis, and the hours of work
will be determined by the needs of the schemes. Relief staff will cover annual
leave, sick leave etc. Unsocial hours may be involved.

Annual Leave
Relief staff will receive one hour’s basic salary for every twelve hours worked.
This constitutes annual leave entitlement.

Probationary Period/Notice Required
Your appointment will be subject to a probationary period, normally 26 weeks
during which time your performance and attendance will be monitored and you
will be required to fully meet the requirements of the job. The postholder will be
required to give two months’ written notice to terminate employment.

Smoking Policy
The Organisation is concerned about tobacco smoking and as a consequence
a No Smoking Policy is in operation for staff during working hours.

Alcohol Policy
There is a No Alcohol Policy. Staff should not consume alcohol before
coming to work or whilst at work. This includes meal breaks.

Confidentiality
Information gained about staff, Service Users, service users in the course of
employment must be regarded as confidential. This is applicable both during
and after employment.
