YOUR DESIGNER NEEDS TO INCORPORATE THIS AND ALL RED-LINING INTO THE PLANS. 2 CHANGE ORDERS - All construction addenda, change orders, or design clarifications must be submitted to the Building Department staff for review and approval prior to construction in the field. The INSPECTOR will receive CHANGES to the approved drawings and specifications in the field for review. (1997 UBC 106.4.1) 3 ENERGY CODE - With each application for a building permit, specifications shall be submitted showing compliance with the Boise City Energy Code. The specifications shall show in sufficient detail pertinent data and features of the building and the equipment and systems, including, but not limited to: design criteria, exterior envelope component materials, U values of the envelope systems, R values of insulating materials, size and type of apparatus and equipment, equipment and systems controls and other pertinent data to indicate comformance with the requirements of the energy code. (Boise City Code 4-02 -26 A.d) Provide documentation of compliance with the perscriptive path or accompany a WATTSUN or MECHECK printout. 4 GARAGE APPLIANCE PROTECTION - Appliances (furnaces, heat pumps, water heaters, etc.) and gas piping installed in garages where they may be subjected to mechanical damage shall be suitably guarded against such damage by being installed behind protective barriers or by being elevated or located out of the normal path of vehicles. (1997 UMC 304.9) See the Mechanical Inspector for approved protection methods. 5 GARAGE PLATFORM - Heating and cooling equipment located in a garage and which generates a glow, spark, or flame capable of igniting flammable vapors shall be installed with the pilots and burners or heating elements and switches at least 18 inches above the floor level. (1997 UMC 303.1.3) 6 ADDRESS NUMBERS - Post approved address numbers in such a position as to be plainly visible and legible from the street or parking lot fronting the property. (Boise City Code 9-6-6 D.5) Address numbers are required to be posted prior to any inspection. 7 FIRE BLOCKING - In combustible construction fire blocking shall be provided (1) In concealed spaces of stud walls and partitions, including furred spaces, at the ceiling and floor levels and at 10-foot intervals both vertical and horizontal, (2) At all interconnections between concealed vertical and horizontal spaces such as occur at soffits, drop ceilings and cove ceilings, (3) In concealed spaces between stair stringers at the top and bottom of the run and between studs along and in line with the run of stairs if the walls under the stairs are unfinished, (4) In openings around vents, pipes, ducts, chimneys, fireplaces and similar openings which afford a passage for fire at ceiling and floor levels, with noncombustible materials, and (5) at openings between attic spaces and chimney chases for factory-built chimneys. (1997 UBC 708.2.1) Where fire blocks are allowed to be of combustible materials, fireblocking shall consist of 2 inches nominal lumber or two thicknesses of 1-inch nominal lumber with broken lap joints or one thickness of 23/32-inch wood structural panel with joints backed by 23/32-inch wood structural panel. Fire blocks may also be gypsum board, cement fiber board, batts or blankets of mineral or glass fiber, or other approved materials installed in such a manner as to be securely retained in place. (1997 UBC 708.2.2) 8 TOWEL BARS - In all occupancies, accessories such as grab bars, towel bars, paper dispensers and soap dishes, provided on or within walls, shall be installed and sealed to protect structural elements from moisture. Materials other than structural elements used in such walls shall be of a type which is not adversely affected by moisture. (1997 UBC 807.1.3) 10 ATTIC ACCESS - An attic access opening shall be provided to attics of buildings with combustible ceiling or roof construction. The opening shall be located in a corridor, hallway, or other readily accessible location. Attics with a maximum vertical height of less than 30 inches need not be provided with access openings. The opening shall not be less than 22 inches by 30 inches. A minimum clear headroom of at least 30 inches shall be provided at or above the access opening. (1997 UBC 1505.1) 11 ATTIC VENTILATION - Enclosed attics and enclosed rafter spaces formed where ceilings are applied directly to the underside of roof rafters shall have cross ventilation for each separate space by ventilating openings protected against the entrance of rain and snow. The net free ventilating area shall not be less than 1/150 of the area of the space ventilated. Where eave or cornice vents are installed, insulation shall not block the free flow of air. A minimum of 1 inch of air space shall be provided between the insulation and roof sheathing. Openings for ventilation shall be covered with corrosionresistant metal mesh with mesh openings of 1/4 inch in dimension. (1997 UBC 1505.3) See limited exceptions. 12 CRAWL SPACE ACCESS - Accessible under-floor areas shall be provided with a minimum 18" by 24" opening unobstructed by pipes, ducts and similar construction.
