Pre-Community Services (A103) This pre-program helps students improve learning skills, build confidence and prepare academically for post-secondary programs in Community Services. Pre-Programs Pre-programs are post-secondary certificate programs that offer students the opportunity to explore career options in a particular industry and earn credits to qualify for other postsecondary programs. These programs are ideal for students who have a general area of interest but have not chosen a specific program in the areas of Business, Health Sciences, Community Services or Hospitality. Other students who lack certain academic requirements (e.g. biology) may consider a pre-program. Students in pre-programs strengthen their academic skills, learn about their chosen field, and prepare for further program study. Our program The Pre-Community Services program provides an overview of the helping fields including exploration of the various career options. Students also learn theory through courses in Sociology and Psychology. Upgrading in English as well as general education electives and computer courses are included; these courses prepare students academically for further post-secondary study. Students develop skills specific to careers in a variety of community service fields. Students improve their learning skills and confidence in an educational environment. A strong emphasis on group learning encourages co-operation, teamwork, and mutual support that will be beneficial in the helping professions.
