It’s a new year and we have some great and exciting opportunities in Children & Family Ministry! Check this
out…
JAM Sunday School –
We continue our Monthly Bible Verse! Each month kids receive a new Bible Verse to learn. On Sunday
morning when they check in they can recite the verse to our Check In Volunteer and receive Bible Bucks
to spend in the Kid’s Store!!! This is a great way for them to get a ‘jump start’ on Confirmation as the
verses they will learn are ones they will be expected to know by the time they are Confirmed.
We are in the process of giving our JAM space a much needed ‘face-lift’. The rooms and hall were
painted last fall and we are working on some really fun extras! Be sure to take a trip upstairs to see
what’s happening.
th
If you have a child three years old – 6 Grade be sure to come visit on Sunday morning. Kids have a
great time learning Bible stories and how they apply to their own lives. We celebrate Birthdays, Baptism
Birthdays, Good Deeds, and other accomplishments with the kids and families. It’s a fantastic way to
plant the seeds of faith and watch them grow!
CHILDREN’S CHURCH nd
All children three years old – 2 Grade are invited to Children’s Church every Sunday during the worship
services.
Kids enjoy taking their own time during the sermon to hear a Bible story, play some games, and maybe
make a craft to remind them how much God loves them!
If you would like to volunteer to lead, contact Cari Hannon and she will sign you up and send you an easy
to use lesson that’s ready for the kids to experience!
WE ARE HERE IN GOOD & BAD –
As much as we love to celebrate with kids and their families, we know that life is not perfect and children can be
directly affected by a family’s challenges. We want you to know that we are here to love, support, and pray with
you and your family through those difficult times. Whether it’s grief due to divorce, death, or other traumatic
changes or if it’s a difficulty with other transitions in life we hope you know we are here to help. Please feel free
to contact Cari Hannon in the church office with any concerns you may have.
SPECIAL FAMILY EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES –
Be sure to get these dates on your calendar so you don’t miss out on the fun!
February 2 – JAMmin’ in our Jammies Sunday. Kids are invited to roll out of bed and come to JAM
Sunday School. Stay comfy and warm as you learn about God’s Word. We invite children to wear their
favorite pajamas to Sunday School.
March 16 – MARCH Your Friends into JAM. Kids are encouraged to bring their friends to JAM with them
each week, but on March 16 we’ll have a special Friendship Sunday.
April 13 – Palm Sunday! You know what this means, our special Kid’s Palm Parade and Easter
Eggstravaganza!
More to come, so be sure to stay connected! Watch for weekly bulletin announcements, like us on Facebook at
OSLC Children and Family Ministry, or check our website through oursaviorlutheranchurch.org.

Chili Cook-Off
2014 was a huge
success!
We were blessed again to overflow the gym during our 2014 Chili Cook-Off. The
preschool parent’s involvement in the Chili Cook-Off continues to grow. Our
preschool children sang during the 11:00 church service and many of the preschool
families stayed for the Chili Cook-Off. It was so nice to see the gym full with about
an equal number of church members and preschool families
all having fellowship together.
The event lasted about an hour and a half and we raised over $1, 346 with a potential
match by Thrivent of $800 to total $2,146. Some of our plans for the money include a
few new carpets for the preschool and another load of rubber mulch for the
playground. We will also be using some funds to help pay for the new preschool sign
for the front lawn.
Chili Cook-Off winners are as follows:
Chili 1st place: Danette Knight Chili
2nd place: Mark Huning Chili
3rd place: Ron Bull
Dessert 1st place: Izabella Brasher Dessert
2nd place: Rachel Mazzola Dessert
3rd place: Jenna Leimkuehler
Thank you again to everyone who helped set-up, take down, plan
and supported the Chili Cook-Off. It is always a fun event!
Youth News and Notes and
Upcoming Events

O.A.S.I.S. Youth Food Challenge – The Youth of Our Savior are competing again in the O.A.S.I.S.
Youth Food Challenge. We are in competition with 11 other churches to see who can collect the most
food for O.A.S.I.S. each week starting February 9 and going through March 2. The first week we are
asking for pancake mix, syrup, soap (bar, 3-pack), and pasta sauce. The second week we are asking for
instant potatoes, canned tuna, laundry detergent, and canned fruit. Week 3 we are collecting 4-packs of
toilet paper, breakfast cereal, hamburger helper, and deodorant. And week 4 we are collecting peanut
butter, jelly/jam, macaroni and cheese, and toothpaste. Whether we win or lose, doesn’t matter; the real
winners will be the people O.A.S.I.S. serves. Thanks for your help!

Summer Servant Event Meeting – All those who are attending the Summer Service Trip to Alabama are
asked to join us on Sunday, February 23 after the late service for an information meeting and update.
Please mark this date on your calendar and join us. The meeting will be done by 1 p.m.

Sr. Youth Broom Ball with Immanuel and Chapel of the Cross – Saturday, February 22, the Sr. Youth
of Our Savior are invited to join us for an evening of games and Broom Ball at the Rec-Plex in St.
Peters. Meet at the Rec-Plex (south building) at 7:30. Cost is $5 per person, and concessions will be
available. No outside food or drinks are allowed. Sign up at the youth booth, and bring your friends!

New Ping Pong Table and Pool Table – Thanks to the preschool for their donation of the new, sturdier
ping pong table in the youth room. It’s great and the youth love it! Thanks also to Jason and Tina
Kuegele for their donation of a pool table to replace our old one. It looks great, and will be well used!
Thanks to Ken Scherer, Ron Leimkuehler, and Todd Lafeber and all the youth who helped take the old
ones down and set the new ones up.

Ash Wednesday Spaghetti Dinner – The Youth of Our Savior will be hosting the Ash Wednesday
Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, March 5. Come and join us for a spaghetti dinner and help support us
as we raise money for our trip to Alabama this summer.

Our Savior T-Shirts Available – Have you noticed the red Our Savior t-shirts the youth and a few of the
adults have been wearing? We got them for our trip to the National Youth Gathering last summer. We
have had a great response to them, and have had many requests for us to offer them to the congregation.
We have several available for immediate purchase! They are red, like the youth shirts, but if you would
like yellow or gray, we can special order them for you! They are $12 each. Contact DCE Mark if you
would like a t-shirt. Support the youth AND promote Our Savior with this great t-shirt!

TJ’s Pizza Fundraiser Sale – Thank you for your support of the Our Savior Lutheran Youth Ministry
and for our Servant Event to Birmingham! Through the sale of TJ’s Pizza we raised about $650 towards
our event. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Wednesday Youth Night – Through Lent, we will continue to meet following the worship services until
9 p.m. We will have a quick devotion, followed by some game time in the gym. All youth and friends
are welcome to join us for both worship, and for Youth Night! Because the different Spring Breaks fall
over three different weeks in March, we will continue to have youth night following worship each week
of all the spring breaks. Remember we meet at 7 p.m. if there is not worship. When there is Wednesday
night worship, we will meet following worship.

Missouri District Jr. Youth Retreat – All 6th –8th graders are invited to join us for the Missouri District
Jr. High Retreat March 28-30. Friends are also welcome to join us. The theme for this event is “Love is
the Word” based on Galatians 5:14 “For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall LOVE your
neighbor as yourself.”” Our presenter is Pastor Greg Bearss from Lake Point Lutheran Church in Hot
Springs, Arkansas. Pastor Gregg has a terrific teaching style and does a wonderful job connecting with
the youth. This bi-annual retreat is held at Camp Windermere near Camdenton, MO. Cost to Our
Savior Youth, if they did not attend in the fall, is $50 for the weekend. For those who attended in the
fall and would like to go again in the spring, the cost is $135. For more information go to the Missouri
District website at www.mo.lcms.org, or speak with DCE Mark.

Missouri District Sr. Youth Retreat – June 27-29 – Mark the dates! All youth in 8th grade and older are
invited to join us June 27-29 for the Missouri District Sr. High Youth Retreat on the campus of Missouri
State in Springfield. The theme for the weekend is “Contradict #ChristiansAreDifferent” with the theme
verse 1 Peter 3:15-16 “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the
reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so
that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their
slander.” Our speaker for the weekend is Pastor Kristopher Morris of Christ the King Lutheran Church
in Lake Ozark, Missouri. We hope you are able to join us for a weekend of service work, fun, Bible
study, and worship. Watch the next newsletter and your email in-box for more information.

Servant Leader Workshop Opportunity March 8 – All lay leaders of Our Savior are invited to attend a
one day workshop at St. Paul, Des Peres, on Saturday March 8. DCE Mark Engelhardt, together with
several other area DCEs will be leading the workshop which will emphasize our Stewardship of Faith –
helping leaders to mature as they practice Christ-like disciplines in the context of community and equip
other servant leaders to do the same. Participants will be able to understand better the concept of Christlike servant leadership; recognize, appreciate, and embrace Sabbath living; explore stewarding their faith
through prayer, Bible study, witness and service; assess their areas of strengths and weaknesses in
Stewardship of Faith; and challenge themselves to grow in a selected area by developing a Servant
Leader Learning Plan. For more information contact DCE Mark or go on-line to
www.kindleservantleaders.org and click on Servant Leader Workshops in the right hand column.
Women’s Ministry
Like you’ve never seen
in 2014!
If there’s one thing Our Savior has been truly blessed with, it’s been a wonderful Women’s Ministry!!!
And that’s NOT about to change!
Our Savior will continue to have an amazing and Spirit-filled Women’s Ministry because we have
amazing and Spirit-filled women!
We are giving the OSLC Women’s Ministry a shot of refreshment with new opportunities for women of
all ages, backgrounds, family make-ups, and life stages. We want to know what YOU are looking for
and how we can serve you in your life, your marriage, your relationships with others, your relationship
with God, and in your current life journeys.
Women are beautiful, complex, and amazing creations of God. And if a ministry is going to fit all
women it can’t be a one-size fits all kind of ministry. We want to learn about you, your needs, your
desires, your goals, but we can’t do that without YOU!!!!
So help us out by telling us a little about YOU and what YOU want from OSLC and Women’s Ministry
in 2014. Complete this very brief information sheet and return it to the church office – you can drop it
off, mail it in, email your answers to [email protected], or contact Cari Hannon in the church

Thank you for your help with the OASIS Church Youth Food Drive Challenge!
By the time this is published, Christmas 2013 will be history
along with the New Year holiday and the first real snowstorm of
2014. You may have made New Year resolutions for selfimprovement to exercise more, or lose weight, or spend less or
many other of the common physical improvements that we all
strive for. While it is always commendable to improve our
physical selves and our environment, St. Paul, in 1 Corinthians,
Chapter 12 exhorts us to use our spiritual gifts to help one another and to help the Church in a spiritual sense.
Our spiritual well-being is more important to God than our physical well-being, and improving our spiritual
selves may require more effort than improving our physical selves.
Therefore, consider using your talents to enhance your spiritual well-being and that of the Church. Perhaps
resolve to enter a bible study, or to volunteer to help out on a Church committee or project. If this doesn’t seem
to be within your comfort zone, consider it a challenge from the Holy Spirit to expand your Christian identity.
Remember, though Jesus said that we should love God with our whole hearts and souls and minds, as Christians
we should also encourage one another and that we should love our neighbors as ourselves.
Wishing you a blessed and happy New Year,
Joe Pallardy, Elder
