BOARD HIGHLIGHTS
David Steinert, President Eric Pfannenstiel, Vice President David Bower, Treasurer Gina Mitchell, Secretary Heather Paulson, Member 2016-17 Board of Education Charge Approved
The Board’s charge to the staff, Elementary, Secondary and Administration was given approval.
The charge includes specific goals and objectives for the year. It will be posted on the board page
of the district website.
Employment
The Board approved the resignation of Elementary Teacher, Lancer Hardy, and approved the
employment of the following individuals: Substitute Teachers Roxi Finley, Elizabeth Young and
Mark Allison and Substitute Custodian, Deshon Martinez. In addition, contract addendums
increasing educational salary steps for two teachers were approved along with extra duty pay
agreements for various sponsor and mentor positions.
Requisitions
Approval was given for two requisitions to CDW-G for purchase of HP ProBook Computers,
$9,851.25 and for Chromebook computers, $17,720.
Board Policy Revisions
Revisions to policy AD Educational Philosophy/School District Mission was reviewed for second
reading; work will continue on finalizing the district’s updated Mission, Vision and Goals next month.
Other Items
The board also approved minutes of the previous meeting, and August financial reports.
Discussion Items
Discussion included the mill levy ballot question, and upcoming CASB meetings and legislative
proposals.
Next Meetings:
The next regular meeting of the board will be on Monday, October 24th, regular session at 7:00
p.m. in the high school library.

When Sargent High School Junior, Trey
Jones learned of Sierra Grande School’s
need for a bike rack, he went to work. As
an Ag Shop class project, he welded the
metal bike rack, under Mr. Mondragon’s
supervision, then donated it to Sierra
Grande. The photo shows Trey with the

appreciative staff and students.

Board of Education Charge 2016‐2017 Elementary ‐ Investigate the feasibility to move to some form of competency based learning. ‐ Increase project based and Cross‐curricular/Collaborative learning opportunities. ‐ Develop homework that is of value to students and illustrates “the Sargent difference”. ‐ Look at ways to make Fridays more meaningful when there is decreased attendance. ‐ Successfully implement the new curriculum and use technology to increase teaching effectiveness to prepare students for the career world. ‐ Improve Math and Language Arts scores by 5%. ‐ Utilize opportunities for funding from the community and the Educational Foundation. Secondary ‐ Develop a dual pathway, through course alignment, for Graduation: College Preparation and Work Force Readiness. ‐ Increase project based and Cross‐curricular/Collaborative learning opportunities. ‐ Look at ways to make Fridays more meaningful when there is decreased attendance. ‐ Use technology to increase teaching effectiveness and prepare students for the technological advance they will see in the career world. (Establish uniform use of Google Docs across all Classrooms) ‐ Improve Math and Language Arts scores by 5%. ‐ Utilize opportunities for funding from the community and the Educational Foundation. Administration ‐ Validate the new position of the curriculum coordinator. ‐ Improve websites (Keep up to date information, promote and inform community). ‐ Improve communication and involvement with parents, staff, and community. (Create a dialog that shows what is meaningful about Sargent, not just that our test scores are better, but what do we do in the classroom that is different and better that leads to increased test scores.) ‐ Develop new Graduation guidelines and criteria that are specific to Sargent and is in the best interest of our Students. ‐ Continually review the “Program Pathway Items” to effectively use funding to achieve our District Mission, Vision and Objectives.
