Unfold this e leaflet and se t i just how easy is to walk it! Trying to lose a few pounds? ...then walk it. A one mile brisk walk (approx 20 mins) burns around 100 calories, about the same as a one mile run! Walking it can also help reduce your chances of getting illness like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers in the future. Calderdale’s walk it scheme is here to encourage you to walk more and feel fantastic! And imagine arriving at work or the shops energised and completely de-stressed. No road rage, no parking nightmares, no crowded buses. Your walk it to town map shows how long it takes to walk in to Halifax town centre. We’ve also put mats on the pavements to show just And there are other benefits to walking too: how quick it is to walk it. £ 10 Even if you don’t live within walking distance of the town you could park outside the centre, or get off the bus earlier, and walk it the rest of the way. Now wouldn’t that make you feel better about yourself?!? 15 20 Save money - it’s free to walk it – a whole lot cheaper than a gym membership and think of the money you could save on petrol, parking or bus fares. Save time £ – for short journeys, by the time you’ve parked your car or waited for a bus, you might have walked it in less time. £ Save the planet – if we all drove just 2 miles less every day it would make a real difference to our environment. You could: • Walk the children to school, it’s good for them too, • Use the stairs instead of taking the lift or escalator, • Park & Stride, wherever you need to go why not park a bit further away and walk the last bit of the journey, • Join one of Calderdale’s walk it together led health walks, a great way to feel fitter and make new friends.
