Harvest Market in Bedford, New Hampshire played
host to the annual Shopping with the Sherm event
held on Saturday, November 7th. This event benefited
New Horizons for NH, a local adult homeless shelter in
Manchester, New Hampshire that also operates as a
soup kitchen, a food pantry, and a shelter for women,
otherwise known as Angie’s Shelter. Customers were
encouraged to purchase pre-filled grocery bags
packed with much needed food items to help fill the
empty shelves at New Horizons.
Charlie Sherman, a local media favorite as well as the
Executive Director at New Horizons, was on hand to
greet patrons as well as Max from the Monarchs, Fungo from the NH Fishercats and
MLB pitcher Chris Carpenter, another local favorite!
Harvest Market is a Corporate store operated by Associated Grocers of New England,
and was the primary food sponsor for this event. The generosity of Harvest Market’s
customers, combined with product donations from select vendors, amounted to a food
donation in excess of $3,800. As the event drew to a close, Charlie Sherman was also
presented with a $1,000 check. It was a successful event that included surprise visits
from US Senator Kelly Ayotte, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. In New
Hampshire during primary season, you never know who is going to show up to help out!
Store Manager Ed Murphy was busy throughout the event, making sure customers were
happy, and everything ran smoothly. Of the event, Murphy said: “What a great day and
a great turn out to support New Horizons! We are heading into that time of year where
there is great need and Bedford, as always, steps up to the plate! The Harvest team
was honored to partner with Primary Bank.” Murphy added: “It was a great success, a
lot of fun, and hopefully won’t be the last!”
