CHESAPEAKE PUBLIC SCHOOLS GUIDE TO HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMS 2017 GENERAL INFORMATION ATTENDANCE High school summer school classes will be offered at Indian River High School. Students must be enrolled in grades 9-12 during the 2016-2017 school year in order to attend. The high school summer program is designed to offer opportunities for ninth through twelfth grade students to repeat courses not successfully completed during the regular school year and afford students opportunities to remain on track with their graduation cohort. All classes will be held 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Schools will be closed on Fridays and on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Graduation for summer school will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the Indian River High School Auditorium. Regular student attendance is expected during summer school sessions. Attendance and tardy regulations will apply to summer school students. As during the regular school year, schools are governed by school board policy that requires the student to attend the current session for a minimum number of days. If the student fails to meet these requirements, he or she may not receive a passing grade for that session. For high school class sessions, this requirement means that a student cannot miss more than three days for a credit-bearing class. Students will not be excused to leave summer school early for vacation. Requests to take final exams early will be denied. In the event a student is dropped for poor attendance, no refund of tuition will be made. All classes are dependent on sufficient enrollment and the availability of qualified and appropriately endorsed instructional staff. REGISTRATION Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS Students) Registration forms will be available in the school counseling office of each high school beginning in April. Students should contact their school counselor for help in the registration process. Early registration is strongly encouraged.
