Quote of the Week
Her many sins have been forgiven-for she loved much (Luke 7:47)
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
Second Sunday of Pentecost
Sunday 31 May 2015
1st Reading/ ACTS 4: 5-22
A reading from the Book of
ACTS “Barichmar “
The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter
and John while they were speaking to the people. They were greatly disturbed
because the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the
resurrection of the dead. They seized Peter and John, and because it was evening,
they put them in jail until the next day. But many who heard the message believed,
and the number of men grew to about five thousand. The next day the rulers, elders
and teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there, and so
were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and the other men of the high priest's family. They
had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: "By what
power or what name did you do this?" Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to
them: "Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for
an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed, then know
this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands
before you healed. He is " `the stone you builders rejected, which has become the
capstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven
given to men by which we must be saved."
This is the Word of the Lord.
2nd Reading /Corinthians 5: 6-12
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to Corinthians' Barichmar”
Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the
whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without
yeast--as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and
wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. I have
written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people-- not at all
meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or
idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing you
that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually
immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a
man do not even eat. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the
church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. "Expel the
wicked man from among you."
The grace and peace be with you all brothers. Amen
Gospel Reading/LUKE 7: 36-50
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the
Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. When a woman who had lived a sinful life
in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought an
alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she
began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed
them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw
this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching
him and what kind of woman she is--that she is a sinner." Jesus answered him,
"Simon, I have something to tell you." Tell me, teacher," he said. "Two men owed
money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other
fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of
both. Now which of them will love him more?" Simon replied, "I suppose the one
who had the bigger debt canceled." "You have judged correctly," Jesus said. Then he
turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into
your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with
her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman,
from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my
head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins
have been forgiven--for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves
little." Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." The other guests began to
say among themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?" Jesus said to the
woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
