Overall, JBD is a high achieving community with strong students and active parents. Free and Reduced lunch rate is at 15% and we currently have approximately 300 military connected students. During the last two years, the focus has been on small group instruction, differentiation, and the integration of STEM into the curriculum with more hands-on and discovery learning types of experiences. Grade 3 SOL Pass rate for 2015: English-Overall 83.22 Percent, down from 88.49% in 2014 SWD-52% (36.99% Gap in SWD and Non-SWD) Grade 3 Math Pass rate for 2015: 83.67 % Up from 83.10% SWD-60.87% (27.03% Gap in SWD and Non-SWD) Grade 4 SOL Pass rate for 2015: English-Overall 91.33% -SWD Math-91.39%-SWD Grade 5 SOL Pass Rate for 2015: English: 95.17-SWD 66.67% Math-93.84%-SWD-75.00% Science-92.57-SWD-58.33 History-93.14 (2014 -98.14)-SWD-66.67 Total DRA rate for students on grade level at the end of 2015-87.80% (reflects students enrolled for 2015-2016) Total SRI rate for students on grade level according to Lexile at the end of 2015-91.10% 2014-2015 was the first year John B. Dey Elementary students embarked on STEM initiatives. Each class had a presentation at the STEM EXPO in March. Student Learning Outcomes SMART Goals 1. Literacy Numeracy Choice By June of 2016, at least 90% of students in grades K-2 currently reading below grade level according to the DRA 2, will be reading on or above grade level according to the Spring Administration of the DRA 2. 2. By June of 2016, at least 90% of students in grades 3-5 will score within the proficient or advanced ranges according to the SRI College and Career Lexile Proficiency Bands. By June 2016, at least 90% of students will score proficient or higher on the final Math Exemplar. By June 2016, 100% of students in each of the grades, K-5, will participate in at least 6 STEAM experiences focused on critical thinking and application of scientific inquiry practices as determined by the school’s STEAM Lab participation chart and the culminating event of the STEAM EXPO in April 2016. All students will complete a written reflection in the Spring describing what they learned and enjoyed most about their STEAM experiences.
