New Mexico Coal Community Scholarship Program Purpose The purpose of New Mexico Coal’s Community Scholarship Program is to promote the educational endeavors of individuals who have the potential to contribute to sustainable long-term value and to ensure lasting social and economic benefit in the community in which we operate. Applicant Eligibility The applicant must meet the following criteria: • Must be a registered tribal member of Navajo or Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. • High school graduate or continuing college student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. • Be accepted as a full-time college student at an accredited college or university. • Must submit all required documents according to application deadline. Exclusions What Documents to Include 1.Complete the Community Scholarship Application (see over) The following will not be considered for funding: 2.A clear copy of high school or college transcripts (caution: faxed transcripts may be illegible) • Incomplete Applications and/or incomplete or unclear supporting documents 3.Certificate of Tribal Membership – must be an enrolled Navajo or Ute Mountain Ute tribal member • Applicants enrolled in less than full-time enrollment 4.Letter of acceptance, enrollment verification or copy of course schedule for the coming semester. • Graduate level applicants • Non-Navajo or Ute Mountain Ute tribal members Other Information How to Apply The Community Scholarship Application and supporting documents are to be emailed, faxed or delivered to the BHP Billiton Farmington Office by close of business, 4:00 pm on June 30th OR mailed with a postmarked by June 30th. The financial support period is from July 1st to June 30th and only includes Fall/Winter/Spring terms. Summer term is not funded. This scholarship is non-renewable. Therefore, all students must reapply each year and provide transcripts at the end of each term. Applications cannot be guaranteed full funding, regardless of their merit. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by letter.
