Curriculum Theme
Our main theme for this term is based on the Stone Age.
Dear Parents and Carers
Literacy, Communication and Language
Extended Narrative; Diaries; Biographies; Journalistic Writing; Power of Imagery in
Poetry. Modern Languages - We will be developing our French vocabulary based around
the theme of sports and hobbies, whilst also developing our conversational French.
Mathematics
Throughout the term we will be developing our skills in: Problem Solving;
Numbers and the Number System; Shape, Space and Measures; Handling Data.
Expressive Arts and Design
Art – Re-creating cave drawings, sketching and painting scenes from the Stone Age.
Music – Creating a thematic piece of music linked with the Stone Age.
DT – Creating models from the Stone Age using natural materials.
Scientific and Technological Understanding
Science – Interdependence and Adaptation; Micro-organisms
Computing - typing and word processing skills; using the internet;
multimedia presentations; Publisher; coding.
Welcome back to all our children, and a special welcome to Brook (Y3), Beth, Katie and
Adam (Y5). We are looking forward to an exciting term with many opportunities both in
and out of the classroom.
The classes in Key Stage 2 this academic year are: Year 3 with Miss Roberts; Year 4/5
with Mrs Armstrong and Year 6 with Mr Clark. Mr Form will be working in Year 6 on
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons; Miss Tym will be working in Year 3 on Thursday
afternoons and Mrs Massey will be working in Year 4/5 on Thursday afternoons. On
Monday afternoons, Years 3 and 4/5 will be working with our sports specialsist, Mr
Windwood, on a range of activities. When appropriate, we will give the children
opportunities to work together.
Please provide your child with a suitable PE kit (white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers)
and ensure that your child’s name and year group are clearly labelled. They should
remember to bring their PE kit to school every Monday and take it home on a Friday.
Our whole school approach to the curriculum this year is the British Isles and
Fundamental British Values. If you would like further information on the curriculum,

Geography – Where in the world did Stone Age people live and settle? Map work – grid
lines. Where did they travel and how did they get there? Locating their settlements
across the world.
History – How has the Stone Age influenced us today? Inventions. Weaponry and tools.
Timeline of the Stone Age. Lifestyles – clothing; homes; food and drink; families and
children; leisure time. How did they travel? Social class system - what jobs and roles did
people have within their communities? Research animals – pets/farming/ wild.

Reading homework:
• Independent reading books to be read and shared with an adult in school
and at home. Your child should be encouraged to read every day.
• Literature Circle will be done in the class with the teacher each week and
some additional work at home will be required.

Our main theme for this term is based around the Vikings and how they affected Britain
and our history.
Literacy, Communication and Language
Narrative Writing – Play scripts and character descriptions based on Roald Dahl.
Non-Fictional Writing – Writing biographies/ Newspaper report writing.
Poetry – Features of poetry and becoming familiar with different styles and techniques.
French – French will be developing our conversational French whilst covering vocabulary
in topics: Moi and Les couleurs.
Mathematics
Throughout the term we will be developing our skills in: Problem Solving;
Numbers and the Number System; Shape, Space and Measures; Handling Data.
Expressive Arts and Design
Art – the children will be designing Viking jewellery and clothing brooches using a range
of Viking patterns.
DT – we will be focusing on food technology and will creating our own Vikings themed
recipes.
Music – focus on composition of music.
Scientific and Technological Understanding
Science – Magnets and Rocks
Computing – E-safety; Using search engines safely and effectively;
typing and word processing skills; multimedia presentations.
RE - The Bible; Advent and Christmas around the world.
Our main theme for this term is based on The Mayan Civilisation and the influences on
the British Isles.

create a game.

History – The Mayan Civilization, Mayan writing/number system, Chechen Itza,
Astronomy, Mayan lifestyle, Mayan Calendar, Mayan Gods, Mayan Games and the
influence Mayans had on British Civilization.
