M A R C H 14th S U N D A Y Leaders in Community Innovation March 2010 HAPPY SPRING EQUINOX !!! What???.....Happy Equinox??......What happened to “ST. Patrick's Day”? Everybody is celebrating the Irish festivities on March 17th, and that is Great!!!, but other things are also taking place in this month of March ……………………………. The SPRING EQUINOX for instance………….March 20th (12:32pm CDT) is a date that most of us recognize as symbolic of changing seasons. The sun will cross directly over the Earth’s equator. As we welcome spring, people south of the equator are actually gearing up for the cooler temperatures of autumn. People of early times celebrated knowing that their food supply would, hopefully, be restored. The date is significant in Christianity because Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox The ‘Ides of March’ is the name of March 15th in the Roman calendar. The 15th was a festive day in the months of March, May. July and October. In March the Romans dedicated it to their god Mars with military parades, etc. We know the Ides of March as the date Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44BC. Caesar was warned, “Beware the Ides of March” in William Shakespeare’s play. Palm Sunday , March 28th is the Sunday before Easter, and marks the beginning of Holy Week. This day commemorates the triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, when palm branches were placed in Christ’s path, before he was crucified on Good Friday (April 2nd) Palm Sunday is a time for reflection on the nature of his death and the Joy of his Resurrection………….….Easter is on Sunday April 4th this year…...Happy Easter!!! April Fools Thursday April 1 st …….Just a reminder to watch out for the pranks….. From the past: KFMB-AM, a San Diego radio station, announced that a beer truck had jack-knifed and could not be towed away until the beer had been removed from its tank. Within minutes over 100 guys showed up at the site where the accident was supposed to have taken place……....no truck……...no beer. ……...Ha Ha April Fools …..(I don’t think so) Call for ‘Videos of Hamiota’: the Hamiota Economic Development Corporation is asking Hamiota and District residents to donate their videos of events taken place in Hamiota during the past few years: ..Rodeo...Golf...Curling...Hockey...Fairs...etc. , etc. As part of our community marketing efforts we wish to provide excerpts of authentic home movies… Hamiota people engaged in Hamiota activities...
