John Marshall Student Becomes
a Finalist in the Teen Pitch Tank
Competition
Young Entrepreneur Institute was founded in 2005 with the belief that
entrepreneurship education and experience can make subjects such as math
and writing more relevant to students. Also that the intangibles necessary to
becoming a successful entrepreneur – perseverance, hard work, managing
adversity, overcoming failure, problem solving – directly mirror characteristics
necessary for success in life. This premise aligns with the goals and culture
supported at John Marshall School of Civic and Business Leadership. So it’s
no surprise that 11th grade student, Onyango Pearl rose to the challenge to
become one of five finalists in this year’s Teen Pitch Tank Competition.
Onyango’s idea is for a locker that will be secured by a student’s fingerprint.
The idea being that fingerprints are unique to every individual, so students’
belongings will be safer than
those held by a traditional
combination lock, and also
more easily accessible –
making a stop at your locker
quick and Congratulations
Onyango on your success!

John Marshall Students Take a Field Trip
to Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Ceremony Promotes
Student Success
Environmental Science,
American History and
Business Classes came together
for a cross-curricular field trip
to Ohio’s only National Park Cuyahoga Valley National
Park this month. Lead by
teachers Mike Baker, Vandana
Bhardwaj and Business and
Community Coordinator
Monisa Mason, students spent
time learning about the second
Industrial Revolution in
regards to construction of the
railway and canal systems, the
Clean Water Act which was a
result of the burning of the
Cuyahoga River in 1969, the
100th Anniversary of the
National Park and health
levels of the watershed.
JROTC
JROTC promoted over 100
cadets to different ranks. In
order to get promoted, they
have to show improvement
over the course of being in
JROTC. Each cadet has the
chance to show command that
they are able to step up and be
a leader. Each cadet has to
wear the proper uniform on the
uniform day in order to get
promoted. Our senior officers
regularly meet to evaluate how
each flight is progressing. Each
of the students’
accomplishments
