It celebrates Jesus’ manifestation as Savior not only of Israel but of the whole world. The gentile world is represented by the three Wise Men (also called the Three Kings) who came from a far land in order to give homage to the newborn King of the Jews in Bethlehem. It is rumored that the Three Kings might actually visit Chester before the Epiphany and leave some goodies for the good children of our parish! PRAYER FOR FAMILIES God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church. May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel. May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us! CHRISTMAS ONE-LINERS CHISTES PARA LA NAVIDAD From a misanthrope: “Santa Claus has it right—visit people only once a year!” The year you stop believing in Santa Claus is the year you start getting clothes for Christmas. What does Santa do with fat elves? He sends them to the Elf Farm, of course. Why was Santa’s helper feeling depressed? He had low elf-esteem. How come you never hear anything about the tenth reindeer, the one named “Olive?” As in, “Ol’ve the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names...” CHRISTMAS THANKS! Thank you to everyone for your cards and gifts. It is very humbling. Thank you to our great staff and volunteers who decorated the church. Thank you to our wonderful organists and cantors, the Gospel Choir, the Spanish Choir and the Choir of St. Agnes Church in West Chester, and a special thanks to their directors. Thank you to our deacons, altar servers, readers, ushers, greeters and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. Thank you to everyone who donated to the giving tree and for the Christmas flowers. Finally, thank you to all the volunteers who worked hard to prepare the toys we received to share with needy families and the giving tree gifts to share with the nursing home residents. You all really helped to make this Christmas a beautiful celebration. May God bless you in this holy season and in the year to come! - ¡¡Felisa, me muero!! — Padre Scott OPPORTUNITIES TO BE INVOLVED IN THE WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES I want to encourage the participation of our parishioners in this wonderful gathering, which will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and around Philadelphia from September 21-25, 2015. According to the official website of the gathering, “Held every three years and sponsored by the Holy See’s Pontifical Council for the Family, the World Meeting of Families is the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families. Each World Meeting of Families has a theme that energizes and enlivens the event while adding great depth of meaning to our understanding of families. The theme of the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 is ‘Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,’ emphasizing the impact of the love and life of families on our society.” First of all, I encourage you to visit the website: www.worldmeeting2015.0rg. Here you can get your tickets, volunteer to help (many volunteers are needed!) and/or offer to host a visiting family. While the papal visit on September 26 & 27 is open to everyone and does not require registration, it will be necessary to have a ticket to be admitted to the exciting and inspiring talks and gatherings within the Convention Center, which will precede the visit of Pope Francis. I hope our parishioners will be well represented among the attendees. There is nothing more important to the future of the Church than the family. As Pope St. John Paul II said, “The future of humanity passes by way of the family.” The strength of the Church will in large measure be determined by the strength (or weakness) of our families. For example, most vocations to the priesthood and religious life come from vibrant and intact Catholic families. Please pray that the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia will be a help in the promotion of habits and practices which lead to happy families. — Padre Scott
