LIE TO ME ABOUT TRUTH
I. INTRODUCTION
• The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this
small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
MAT 25:23
• Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who
actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. MAT 7:21
A. WHAT KEEPS US FROM THE TRUTH?
1. FALSE TEACHINGS• Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see
if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. I JN 4:1
• Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come
from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. COL 2:8
2. PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH• For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will
follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears
want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths. II TIM 4:3
• Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish
ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. 24 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.
But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. LK 9:23

3. BIBLE HAS GOD THOUGHTS• My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything
you could imagine. ISA 55:8
• The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being
saved know it is the very power of God. I COR 1:18
C. JESUS IS THE TRUTH1. WHO HE IS- LIAR, LUNATIC, SON OF GOD
• Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except
through me. JN 14:6
• That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be,
you will die in your sins.” JN 8:24
2. PROOF OF HIS RESURRECTION• During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he
proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. ACTS 1:3
D. PROOF IN US1. HOLE IN OUR HEARTS• They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. ROM 1:19
3. WE ARE LAZY• Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who
does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. II TIM 2:15
2. UNIVERSAL CONSCIENCE• They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts
either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. ROM 2:15
B. THE GOAL OF THE SERIES• You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” JN 8:32
3. CHANGED LIVES• My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. GAL 2:20
II. THE BATTLE FOR TRUTHTRUTH= Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been,
A. THE FOUNDATION OF TRUTH• The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever. PS 119:160
E. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TRUTH• The time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit
and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. JN 4:23.
• All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is
wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses
it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. II TIM 3:16
A. THE EXISTENCE OF GOD AND THE SUPERNATURAL WORLD
1. CREATION- WE ARE HERE• By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now
see did not come from anything that can be seen. HEB 11:3
2. DESIGN IN CREATION- COMPLEXITY INCREASING THE DEEPER WE GO
• The heavens proclaim the glory of God. PS 19:1
• Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I
know it. PS 139:14
3. NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES• I was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I was in my body or out of my
body, I don’t know—only God knows. 3 II COR 12:2
B. PROOF FOR THE SUPERNATURAL ORIGINS OF THE BIBLE
1. PROPHECY• I am God, and there is none like me. 10 Only I can tell you the future before it even happens.
ISA 46:9
WHERE THE LIES COME FROM• Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from
God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me.- 44 For you are the children of your father the
devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has
always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his
character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.- 47 Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the
words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.” JN 8:42
III. SUMMARY AND APPLICATION
A. SEE THE BATTLE OVER TRUTHB. CHOOSE OUR TRUTH1. FOLLOW WHO WE BELIEVE• If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and
is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love
him. That is how we know we are living in him. 6 Those who say they live in God should live their
lives as Jesus did. I JN 2:4
2. DON’T ADD OR TAKE AWAY• If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described
in this book. 19 And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will
remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.
