Objectives of the Course
This course is intended to teach methods of reading and analysing poems, to explain features and
structure of poetry with the general techniques used, to analyse Neoclassical poets, the characteristics
of the Romantic period, the freshness that Romantic poets brought and the reflection of the Romantic
thought on the poetry of the period.

Contents of the Course
In this course, firstly the Neoclassical period, the way of thinking in this period and its reflections on
the literature and the works of the prominent poets are studied. Then, the Romantic movement which
emerged as a response to the Neoclassical period and its sensual philosophy is analysed. The works
of the prominent poets of the Romantic period are analysed with the help of students’ presentations.
