edited for print and web distribution. Special emphasis will be placed on the creative and
artistic aspects of digital editing. Laboratory 2 hours, lecture 2 hours.
Textbook and Related Materials:
 Adobe Photoshop CC On Demand, by Steve Johnson, Que. ISBN: 0780789751621. This
book is not required but recommended as a reference manual.
 Software: Adobe Photoshop CC (subscription). Visit the TCC online bookstore on
Blackboard for detailed information.
Course Objectives:
Students successfully completing Advanced Photoshop will be able to:
 Communicate ideas and feelings using photographic imagery.
 Retouch portraits.
 Restore vintage photographs.
 Create digital paintings that rival traditional media.
 Use masks, adjustment layers, layer effects, and filters creatively.
 Create and edit video projects.
Professional Organizations:
Any student planning on a career in either graphic design or web design is strongly advised
to join the Tulsa chapter of the Art Directors Club (http://www.artdirectorsoftulsa.org).
Benefits include meeting and networking with professionals in the Tulsa community, and
having the opportunity to see nationally prominent artists and designers show and discuss
their work and careers. A job bank is posted on their website.
Students are also encouraged to join Pi Beta Lambda (PBL), which helps students transition
into the business world. PBL is for those interested in developing leadership,
communication, and team skills with others at the local, state, or national levels. In today's
highly competitive business environment it takes more than just a degree to succeed. It
requires business savvy, leadership skills, and technical knowledge. By taking advantage of
the many programs that Phi Beta Lambda offers, students acquire the skills that will set
them apart from the average graduate.
Teaching Methods:
Students will learn by direct instruction, demonstrations, hands-on activities, open
discussion, and personal discovery.
Evaluation Techniques:
 Students will be evaluated by accumulating points on assignments, and tests. No
incompletes for the semester will be given except for medical reasons.
 Assignments will require students to achieve mastery of Adobe Photoshop software,
and to be able to effectively compose creative, captivating images.
 In this course there are two types of assignments. The first type is one that teaches a
particular technique and requires no creativity from the student. Assignments of this
type are worth 10-25 points. The second type is one that not only requires a mastery of
a specific technique, but also requires the student to use that technique creatively.
Assignments of this type are worth 50-100 points.
 The following grading scale will be employed:
100-90% = A
89-80% = B
79-70% = C
69-60% = D
<60% = F.
A = Excellent work, above requirements and expectations; professional quality
work.
B = Good work, competent, achieves goals and expectations.
C = Average work, uninspired, goals and requirements partially achieved.
D = Poor work, minimal achievement of objectives.
F = Little or no evidence of having met objectives of assignment.
AW =Administrative withdrawal for nonattendance or inactivity
WN = Withdrawn for never having attended the class.

For creative assignments, the following grading rubric will be used for evaluation of the
assignment:

Attendance Policy:
Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class. Student promptness is mandatory,
as classroom interruptions are not conducive to the learning process. Moreover, experience
missed in class due to an absence will be difficult if not impossible to recapture. If a student
is more than 15 minutes he/she will be counted as absent. If a student has six or more
absences he/she will be withdrawn from the course and be given an AW as a grade. If a
student enrolls in the course but never attends any classes, a grade of WN will be given and
the student is responsible for all tuition charges.
Late Assignments and Makeup Tests
Assignments submitted up to one week after the due date will be marked down 15%.
Assignments that are between one and two weeks late will be marked down 30%. No work
will be accepted if it is more than two weeks late.
Withdrawal, Audit, and Incomplete Policy:
The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class.
Check the TCC Academic Calendar online for the deadline that applies to the course. Begin
the process with a discussion with the instructor to fill out a Request for Withdrawal form.
Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course.
Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the
financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an
outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who
stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of "F,"
which may have financial aid consequences for the student. To request a change to Audit
(A), the student must be maintaining a passing grade. The student must initiate the change
with the instructor and sign the audit agreement. No incompletes will be given except
under dire circumstances, and only with proper documentation.
Communications:
Students will be assigned an Office 365 e-mail address with the
[email protected] formatting. (ex: [email protected]). All
communications to you about TCC and this course will be sent to this email address only.

dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic
dishonesty a faculty member may:
 Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question.
 Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or
administratively withdraw the student from the class.
 Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester. Faculty may request
that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by
submitting such a request to the Dean of Student Services.
