EU-Ukraine business cooperation opportunities
The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between The EU and Ukraine entered
into force on 1 January 2016, as part of their broader Association Agreement (AA). The rest
of the Association Agreement, containing political and cooperation provisions, has already
been provisionally applied since November 2014.
TRADE PICTURE
The EU is Ukraine’s largest trading partner, accounting for more than a third of its trade. It is
also its main source of Foreign Direct Investment.
Main Ukraine exports to the EU: raw materials (iron, steel, mining products, agricultural
products), chemical products and machinery.
Main EU exports to Ukraine: machinery and transport equipment, chemicals, and
manufactured goods.
Given Ukraine’s industrial potential, the DCFTA provides an opportunity to make the country
more competitive and diversify its exports.
EU AND UKRAINE
The AA/DCFTA aims at boosting bilateral trade in goods and services between the EU
and Ukraine by progressively cutting tariffs and by aligning Ukraine’s rules with the EU’s in
selected industrial sectors and for agricultural products.
In the DCFTA Ukraine has committed itself to harmonize a large number of rules, norms
and standards in a number of trade-related areas with those of the EU. These areas are
competition, public procurement, trade facilitation, protection of intellectual property rights
and trade-related energy aspects, including on investment, transit and transport.
Since 1993 Ukraine has also benefitted from the EU’s Generalized System of Preferences
(GSP). In 2013, more than 70% of Ukrainian exports to the EU of machinery and
mechanical appliances, plants, oils, base metals, chemicals and textiles benefitted from
GSP preferential tariffs.

Walloon government has defineddigital as a political priority. The Marshall Plan
4.0 defines the political priorities for the economic redeployment of Wallonia. It is
structured in 5 major axis. The fifth is «supporting digital innovation».

NETWORKS
WALLONIA HAS AN EXCELLENT COVERAGE IN TERMS OF BROADBAND
NETWORKS (FIXED AND WIRELESS).
• The public fiber network, managed by the Sofico. This network is open to public &
private partnerships. It covers all major cities and areas of Wallonia.
• The Belnet network, which provides broadband coverage for universities, colleges and
publics institutions.
• The fixed and mobile networks of 4 major telecoms operators (Proximus, Mobistar, Base
and VOO). Several other alternative operators are also active. Mobile 3G covers most areas
of Wallonia. 4G is available in the major cities.
INSTITUTIONS

Mariupol), three customs terminals (Kramatorsk, Slavyansk and Kostiantynivka). Donetsk CCI
has on its board 129 employees, including the people who works in Donetsk CCI branches.
In August 2014, due to the ATO (anti-terrorist operation) on Donbass we had to evacuate
our organization to Kramatorsk, re-register there, and actively continue its activities on the
territory controlled by Ukraine. 35 of Donetsk CCI staff members moved to Kramatorsk and
left to work out of 170 people who worked in Donetsk.
