Working with Logic Fallacies – What Will People Say? 1. Write a 1-sentence answer to this question: Should a person’s driver’s license be revoked after three convictions for speeding? 2. Read other answers to the question below. Name the logic fallacy for as many as you can. Whether you can label the fallacy or not, explain why it is illogical. a. No. People who drive fast are usually the best drivers. b. Definitely not. A driver who goes too fast is much like an airplane test pilot; his work is dangerous, but he knows exactly what he’s doing. c. Yes, indeed. I once knew a man who had been convicted of speeding five times; later, he killed a man in a highspeed accident. d. The fuzzy-minded fanatic who dreamed this up probably drives thirty miles-an-hour on the freeway. e. No. Driving too fast is no more serious a crime than spitting on the sidewalk. f. Yes. It’s the law. g. Yes. If a person’s license is revoked after three speeding violations, they will understand the stupidity of their actions. They will most likely lose their job, because they no longer have a license, and really appreciate the danger they have put others in. h. Certainly not. One of my best friends is Cal Jukes, and he always drives over the speed limit. i. No. Everybody speeds. Who cares? 3. Now take another look at your own statement. Is there anything illogical about it?
