4. TEST RESULTS CONTINUED
Test:
Three Steel Hull Cell panels were stripped cleaned and dried. These
were then spray coated in accordance with the supplier’s
instructions. Three coats were applied in all. The edges and rear
were masked in tape, apart from the bottom edge. The panels were
subjected to 168 hours of neutral salt spray inclined at 6o from
vertical.
Observations:
After 168 hours in the Neutral Salt Spray chamber, of the three
panels tested, one panel had one red corrosion spot. No other
corrosion was found on the three panels.
Concluding Remarks:
It is likely the corrosion spot has formed from an air bubble in the
spray coating. Overall there was insignificant red corrosion found. It
also should be noted that the bottom of the panels were not taped
to allow the salt spray solution to run freely down the panel and not
cause ‘pooling’ on the panel. The bottom edge of the panel is not
reported on and is not part of the test as bare steel was still
showing. See attached photos.
