ATTENTION BREA RESIDENTS! Tuesday night, February 28, at 7:00 p.m., Brea’s Planning Commission will be considering a proposal to approve the construction of a two building apartment complex (747 units, 1,000+ bedrooms) on the west side of St. College between Birch St. and the Rails-to-Trails. Plus a 150room hotel across St. College just north of the Claim Jumper restaurant. Pulling an end run! With the approval of the Planning Department, Hines is dodging doing a new EIR, relying instead on a technical loophole that allows an Addendum to the 2003 General Plan EIR to suffice. Besides substantially reducing their costs and speeding up project completion, Hines will avoid clarification of current environmental impacts of the project as required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and can also escape serious public scrutiny – unacceptable. Who and what will be effected? The project will most likely result in considerable environmental impacts, especially on traffic, and air quality and noise impacts related to traffic, along with strains on Brea’s public services like schools, water, and police. Although neighborhoods closest to the project will be more directly affected, anyone driving in Brea to the Brea Mall, Target, the Post Office, Brea High School, or seeking access to the 57 freeway, will be affected. What can you do? Attend the Planning Commission meeting on February 28 in the City Council chambers. Wear red to demonstrate your concern. Many residents will be speaking, your presence will support and encourage them. Write letters and emails to the Planning Commission (see email addresses on the back of this flyer) expressing your concerns and adding your confirmation to the efforts of the Brea Concerned Citizen group formed to ensure that the project is properly done and the public has a voice. Information updates. As additional information becomes available, you will find it on the Brea Concerned Citizen’s group Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/384324368598702/members and on the Brea Matters blog at: www.breamatters.org If we can fix the process, we can fix the project!
