Binding Guidelines
for Students.

What we will do…





Bind your work Monday – Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
Give advice on suitable types of binding.
Allow you to submit work to be bound up until midnight.
Provide A4 and A3 binding.
Provide a choice of front and back covers within the binding price.
What we will not do…
Guarantee you will meet your submission deadline. It is your responsibility to
ensure you have left enough time for binding. We can not arrange extensions or
late submissions of your work. We therefore recommend that you allow at least 24
hours for your work to be bound and longer at weekends.
Bind documents over 240 pages long.
Bind anything which breaches the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988
(please see www.northumbria.ac.uk/copyright for more details).
Bind anything with staples, paperclips or other attachments.
Correct any binding where the error is not our fault. If you need to change any
part of your document due to a content or formatting error you must submit it again
in full and pay the full cost of binding. This second binding may take up to 24 hours
in peak times.

Before handing your work in…
Check that your document is complete and correct. We will bind it the way you
hand it in. Please note we will not accept uncompleted work or check any part of
your document including the spelling, graphics, layout, page order/ numbers or the
orientation of pages.
Collect front and back covers if needed from your faculty office.
These covers are usually mandatory for dissertations.
Find out what sort of binding you need. We only provide a (plastic) comb binding service.
Complete a binding application form, available from the Ask4help service point
on the ground floor, clearly stating your name, binding type and requirements. It is
vital that you sign this form once complete.
Remove your work from any folders/wallets/envelopes. We will not return
these after your work has been bound.
