ComputerTechnologyandVideoentriesaredividedintofourcategories:
IMPORTANTNOTE:Eachofthecategoriesisveryspecific.Pleasereadthedescriptionsclearly.Ifyouhave
questionsaboutthecategoryofyourentrytalktoyourschoollibrarian,technologycoachorcallInstructional

1. Webpage‐Projectsinthiscategoryareoriginalwebpages,includingblogs,createdinsupportofa
curriculumbasedprojectorunitofstudy.
2. Software‐Projectsinthiscategorywillincludesimplepresentations,spreadsheets,databases,fliers,
newsletters,brochures,graphs,suchas,thosegeneratedinWord,Publisher,Excel,Access,etc.Simple
PowerPointpresentationsorslideshowsmayalsobeincludedinthiscategory.Simplesoundsandclipart
thatareincludedwithinthePowerPointprogram,fromtheMicrosoftClipartsite,ordownloadedfromthe
Internetmaybeused;howeverifvoicenarration,music,streamingvideoorothersimilar
multimediacomponentsareused,theprojectmustbeenteredintheMultimediacategory.
3. Multimedia‐Productsinthiscategoryuseoneormoredifferentmedia(digitalimages,audio,graphics,
animations,etc.)toconveyinformation.Emphasisisbasedontheuseofthesoftwarepackageaswellas
thecontent.Examplesinclude,butnotlimitedto:podcasts,PowerPointorslideshowpresentations
containingvoicenarration,music,streamingvideo,PhotoStorywithsound,voicenarration,andmusic
(pleasefinalize).
4. Video‐Productsinthiscategoryuseoriginaldigitalmediatoproduceavideousingavideorecording
device.Entriesinthiscontestarebasedonthestoryline,content,quality,overallcompositionandediting
ofaudioandvideofootage.Themajorityoftheprojectmustbeoriginalvideo.
Reminder:Atrulysuccessfulvideoproductionisonethathasbeenplannedwellsothatthereisan
interestingflowwithconsistencyinbothaudioandvideo.
Astoryboardisrequiredasthebasisforplanningallvideossubmittedinthecontest.Aformcanbefound
ontheVisualLiteracylinkoftheInstructionalTechnologyServicesWebpage.Ascriptmayaccompany
thestoryboard;however,astoryboardmustbeincluded.Astoryboardtemplatecanbefoundat

ContestRulesandInformation
1.Allentriesmustberelatedtoaninstructionalactivityorstandard.Theassigningteachershouldensurethatthe
objectiveoftherelatedlessonisclearlystatedinacompletesentenceorphraseontheapplication.Entrieswithouta
clearlystatedobjectivewillbedisqualified.
2.Eachentrywillbejudgedinoneofthefollowingdivisions:

3. Studententriesmustbeproducedbystudentsonly fromtheideatothefinishedproduct.Teachersmayoffer
instructionandsupervisionbuttheactualworkmustbedonebystudents.Studententrieswillbeclassifiedinone
oftwocategories:
a.IndividualEntry:Oneentryproducedbyasinglestudent.
b.GroupEntry:Oneentryproducedbytwoormorestudents
4. Entriesinvolvingadultparticipationwillbeclassifiedinoneoffourdivisions:
a.Adult/StudentJointEntry:Oneentryrelatedtoaninstructionalactivitydesignedbyoneormoreadultsand
oneormorestudents.
b.FacultyIndividualEntry:Oneentryrelatedtosomeaspectofinstructiondesignedbyonestaffmember.
c.FacultyGroupEntry:Oneentryrelatedtosomeaspectofinstructiondesignedbytwoormorestaffmembers
d.Adult/CommunityEducation:Oneentrysupportinginstructionalactivitiescompletedbystaff/studentsinthe
district’sAdultEducationProgramoranyRichlandOneemployee.
5. Amaximumoftwoentries(individualand/orgroup)perapplicantwillbeacceptedintheoverallcontest.A
maximumofoneawardperapplicantwillbegivenineachcategoryordivision.
6. Entriesshouldnothavewonawardsinanyothercontestsorcompetitions.

canbeaccessed.
• Consistofanoriginalproductionthatincludesbothavideoandanaudiotrack.Videoonlyandaudioonly
soundtrackswillnotbeaccepted.
• Includeacopyofastoryboard.AformcanbefoundontheVisualLiteracylinkoftheInstructionalTechnology
ServicesWebpage.
• Benolongerthan10minutes.Shortexcerptsmaybeincludedand/oreditedtogetherbutthetotalforallclips
mustbe10minutesorless.
• Ifaspecialprogramisneededtoplaythesubmittedentries,pleasenotifyInstructionalTechnologyServicesin
advance.
• Havethetitle,entrantorgroup’snameandschoolclearlywrittensomeplaceontheCD,orDVD
• Includethetitleandentrant’snameasapartoftheproduction(createdby,producedby,etc),andcopyrighted

13.Theassigningteachershouldcarefullyreviewallapplicationsbeforesigningthem.Theteacher’s
signatureonanapplicationwillverifythatallinformationsubmittedisaccurate.

16.Ribbonswillbepresentedforfirstplace,secondplace,thirdplaceandhonorablementionineachdivision.Only
thoseapplicantswhosenamesappearontheapplicationofwinningentrieswillreceivearibbon.

17.Oneofficialcertificatewillbepresentedtotheschoolforeachwinningentry
regardlessofthenumberofstudentssubmittingtheentry.
18.OneGrandPrizewinnerwillbechosenfromIndividualorGroupStudent
entries.Faculty,Adult/StudentJointandAdult/CommunityEducationentries
arenoteligiblefortheGrandPrize.
19.TheAwardforCreativeExcellenceissponsoredbyMichaelMannandBarbaraRackes.Themostcreative
individualstudententrywillreceivethismonetaryaward.
20.SchoolswillbenotifiedofwinningentriesandawardswillbepresentedonMarch20,2017at4:00pmduringour
AnnualTechnologyShowcaseattheOlympiaAuditorium.
21.InstructionalTechnologyServiceswillprovidenotificationregardingthereturnofentries.
22.Allpossiblecarewillbetakeninhandlingandreturningentries.RichlandCountySchoolDistrictOneandall
cooperatingorganizationsarenotresponsibleforlossordamage.
