His Ancestry
Psa. 19:7 (RSV) The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is
sure, making wise the simple;
Psa. 19:8 (RSV) the precepts of the LORD are
right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the
LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
Psa. 19:9 (RSV) the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the LORD are
true, and righteous altogether.
Introduction
Jesus came from Adam and Eve. Then the Bible traces
his lineage to Noah and his descendants to the flood,
which destroyed all the rest of the evil people on
Earth. Earthlings had a new beginning.
Gen. 5:3 (NAS95S) ¶ When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in
his own likeness, according to his image, and named
him Seth.
Gen. 5:4 (NAS95S) Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and
he had other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:5 (NAS95S) So all the days that Adam lived
were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.
Gen. 5:6 (NAS95S) ¶ Seth lived one hundred and five
years, and became the father of Enosh.
Gen. 5:7 (NAS95S) Then Seth lived eight hundred and
seven years after he became the father of Enosh, and
he had other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:8 (NAS95S) So all the days of Seth were nine
hundred and twelve years, and he died.
Gen. 5:9 (NAS95S) ¶ Enosh lived ninety years, and
became the father of Kenan.
Gen. 5:10 (NAS95S) Then Enosh lived eight hundred
and fifteen years after he became the father of Kenan,
and he had other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:11 (NAS95S) So all the days of Enosh were

understanding of Jesus’ nature leading to his grace.

“YOU ARE MY SON,
TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU”?
And again,
“I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM
AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME”?
Like the birth of Adam having been formed by God
became His son, made in the image of God, Jesus became the second Adam. Definition: to give birth to,
have a child, become the father of.
Rom. 5:14 (NLT-SE) Still, everyone died—from the
time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who
did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as
Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of
Christ, who was yet to come.
Luke 3:22 (NAS95S) and the Holy Spirit descended
upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came
out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am
well-pleased.”
Out of his lineage and his adherence, without mistake
or error, to God’s Word, God Chose Jesus as His Son.
Ex. 19:9 (NAS95S) The LORD said to Moses, “Behold,
I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people
may hear when I speak with you and may also believe
in you forever.” Then Moses told the words of the

nine hundred and five years, and he died.
Gen. 5:12 (NAS95S) ¶ Kenan lived seventy years, and
became the father of Mahalalel.
Gen. 5:13 (NAS95S) Then Kenan lived eight hundred
and forty years after he became the father of Mahalalel, and he had other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:14 (NAS95S) So all the days of Kenan were
nine hundred and ten years, and he died.
Gen. 5:15 (NAS95S) ¶ Mahalalel lived sixty-five years,
and became the father of Jared.
Gen. 5:16 (NAS95S) Then Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years after he became the father of
Jared, and he had other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:17 (NAS95S) So all the days of Mahalalel were
eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died.
Gen. 5:18 (NAS95S) ¶ Jared lived one hundred and
sixty-two years, and became the father of Enoch.
Gen. 5:19 (NAS95S) Then Jared lived eight hundred
years after he became the father of Enoch, and he had
other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:20 (NAS95S) So all the days of Jared were nine
hundred and sixty-two years, and he died.
Gen. 5:21 (NAS95S) ¶ Enoch lived sixty-five years,
and became the father of Methuselah.
Gen. 5:22 (NAS95S) Then Enoch walked with God
three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:23 (NAS95S) So all the days of Enoch were
three hundred and sixty-five years.

Gen. 5:24 (NAS95S) Enoch walked with God; and he
was not, for God took him.
Gen. 5:25 (NAS95S) ¶ Methuselah lived one hundred
and eighty-seven years, and became the father of
Lamech.
Gen. 5:26 (NAS95S) Then Methuselah lived seven
hundred and eighty-two years after he became the
father of Lamech, and he had other sons and daughters.
Gen. 5:27 (NAS95S) So all the days of Methuselah
were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.
Gen. 5:28 (NAS95S) ¶ Lamech lived one hundred
andcreated
eighty-two years, and became the father of a son.
Gen. 5:29 (NAS95S) Now he called his name Noah,
saying, “This one will 1give us rest from our work
and from the toil of our hands arising from the
ground which the LORD has cursed.”
Gen. 6:13 (NAS95S) ¶ Then God said to Noah, “The
end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is
filled with violence because of them; and behold, I
am about to destroy them with the earth.
Gen. 6:14 (NAS95S) “Make for yourself an ark of
gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms,
and shall cover it inside and out with pitch.
The father of all humans, Adam, made in God’s image, but never lived up to his potential, and several of
his prodigies leading to Noah who showed what it

in spite of all.
So after Jesus’ baptism by John, by which he emulated
Noah and the flood and Moses and Israel escaping
Pharaoh through the Sea, Jesus continued the ways of
cleansing by water. At that point God chose, or adopted, Jesus as His Son.
Luke 9:35 (NAS95S) Then a voice came out of the
cloud, saying, “This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen
to Him!”
Definition: Pick out, choose.
God spoke to David.
Psa. 2:6 (NLT-SE) For the Lord declares, “I have
placed my chosen king on the throne
in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”
Psa. 2:7 (NLT-SE) ¶ The king proclaims the LORD’s
decree:
“The LORD said to me, ‘You are my son.
Today I have become your Father.

Isaac, Was a prophet and continued in the covenant.
Jacob, continued in the covenant.
Joseph, prophecies and dreams
Moses, close interrelation with God and great religious
leader; given the commandments on stone; Jesus received commandments from the Spirit-mind, character, righteousness-from God. He was given and established the covenant of righteousness between God and
man.
David, the great king of Israel, knew how to rule righteously, mostly (he had his foibles).
The time was right: education, community, and the
Roman Empire within which spokesmen could gather
great believers from around the world who would then
go underground.
With Jesus’ genetic background and great times he
was born into, he maintained a righteousness beyond
all others. Aside from some predilections, as shown by
the demon’s temptation, Jesus refused to turn away
from God toward the demon the way Adam and Eve
did. That rule brought bitterness, evil and destruction
to humanity in every way. Jesus knew of the demon
from the Written Word and followed the narrow way,

was like to be a son of God. All the genes came from
God’s forming man from the clay of the earth. Humans
were made in God’s image and were his children, but
only a few lived up to their potential, sons of God.
The Bible shows the ancestors of Noah leading to
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and Aaron, and
then to David. Both Mary and Joseph came from separate lines from David. So, Jesus became united from
two strands of David’s descendants.
Matt. 1:6 David was the father of Solomon, whose
mother had been Uriah’s wife, 7 Solomon the father of
Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the
father of Asa, 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father
of Uzziah, 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the
father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of
Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the
father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the
exile to Babylon. 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of
Zerubbabel, 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud
the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, 14
Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim,
Akim the father of Eliud, 15 Eliud the father of
Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the
father of Jacob, 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the

husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called
Christ.
These trace Jesus to Joseph and then to David
Matt. 1:17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all
from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile
to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.
Luke 3:23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old
when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was
thought [properly, to do by law (usage)], of Joseph, the
son of Heli, 24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the
son of Melki, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, 25 the
son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the
son of Esli, the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Maath, the
son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech,
the son of Joda, 27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa,
the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melki, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam,
the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Joshua,
the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat,
the son of Levi, 30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah,
the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David.
These would have to be the lineage to Mary or vice a versa.

Man def. Greek: a human being;
Jesus had the language and culture of his time, and
learned all about his ancestors and more. Jesus studied
to be a Rabbi until age thirty, they say.
We are born with certain capabilities. Genes give us
skills or talents, which we must use based on education, learning and practice. So why the genealogy? He
had to be the recipient of the promise and purpose and
calling. He had the genes capable of learning and having the skill to do the will of God.
Language and culture makes a person with whatever
skills he may happen to have. We have a history,
which may or not effect our lives but have effect our
genes.
History of several of Jesus’ important ancestors
Noah, the wood worker (built and ark), Jesus the carpenter talent.
Abraham, Gen. 12:1 (RSV) ¶ Now the LORD said to
Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and
your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
Gen. 12:2 (RSV) And I will make of you a great nation,
and I will bless you, and make your name great, so
that you will be a blessing. Go and will make you the
king of the Kingdom of God. Made the great covenant.
