Science
1. Grouping Living Things
 Recognize that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways.
 Identify and name a variety of living things in the local and wider environment.
 Classification of living things – Explore and use classification keys to help group
living things.
2. Dangers to Living Things
 Recognize that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to
living things.
 Food chains – Construct and interpret a variety of food chains.
 Identifying producers, predators and preys in food chains.
 Environment changes – Ways environment changes (natural and human changes)
 How humans can reduce the effects of changes to the environment.
 Identified living things in a pond and evaluated possible ways to reduce the effects of
the changes.
3. Human Nutrition
 Food groups – Identify different food groups, human diets
 Human digestive system – Describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the
digestive system in humans.
 Teeth – Identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions.
 Healthy teeth - different ways to keep teeth healthy, identify good and bad foods for
teeth.
 Identify the names and functions of animal teeth.
 Plan an investigation on tooth decay.
4. States of matter
 Properties of solids, liquids and gases
 Effects of heating and cooling on materials (melting and freezing)
 Evaporation and condensation
 Water cycle
5. Sound
 Different sounds
 How sounds are made, sounds travel through a medium to the ear
 Pitch of sound, changing the pitch of a sound, find patterns between the pitch of a
sound and features of an object that produced it
 Volume of a sound, find patterns between the volume of a sound and the strength of
the vibrations that produced it.
 Sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases
6. Electricity
 Common appliances that run on electricity (mains, batteries)
 Name and identify the basic parts of an electrical circuit
 Construct simple series circuit
 Draw a simple circuit diagram
 Electrical conductors and electrical insulators
 What is a switch and uses of switch
