SMART IN THE PARK
“SMART IN THE PARK” is a BREVARD COUNTY MANATEES sponsored math contest involving baseballrelated problems. It is designed for bright high school math students.
WHEN: Friday, May 8, 2015, Brevard County Manatees vs. Tampa Yankees
WHERE: Space Coast Stadium ● Check-In 4:30PM ● Testing Begins at 5PM ● Game Starts 6:30PM
PERKS: Each student will receive a commemorative Manatees Baseball Cap, pre-game refreshments as well
as a ticket to that night’s Manatees game.
CONTEST:
 MATHEMATICS- The 45-minute contest will require the knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry
and pre-calculus topics.
 TEAMS- A maximum of 4 students make up ONE team. Schools may send as many teams as they
like. **THE HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE MOST REGISTERED STUDENTS WILL EARN THE OPPORTUNITY
TO NOMINATE ONE MEMBER OF ITS FACULTY OR ADMINISTRATION TO THROW OUT THE
CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH**
 TOOLS- Calculators, including graphing calculators, are encouraged. Other than a calculator and a
pencil, no other aides will be permitted.
 SCORING- The winning team will be the team with the greatest number of correct answers. In the
event of a tie, the winner will be the team which submitted its answers first.
PRIZES: The winning team will be recognized during that evening’s MANATEES VS. YANKEES game and presented with a
TROPHY during the 7th inning stretch, as well as an interview in the Broadcaster’s Booth on The Manatee Radio Network!

*For organizational purposes, students are encouraged to turn in registration forms in the same envelope or
on the same day as their other selected team members. Creating and notating your Team Name on your
registration form is crucial in the test planning process. Registration forms may be submitted, in 3 ways:

Student tickets to that night’s game will be distributed upon check-in on May 8th (testing date). Friends and
Family tickets will be available for pick-up at WILL CALL on May 8th.
Only participating students will be able to enter the stadium for check-in at 4:30PM, with testing starting
promptly at 5:00PM. Parents, friends, or family may drop students off at the stadium entrance and relax in the
parking lot or enjoy the nearby Avenues shopping plaza until the gates open to the public at 5:30PM.
Once gates open to the public, parents, friends and family will be directed via signage to reunite with students
and are welcomed to join them in their private pre-game reception with refreshments, and community figure
appearances, Manny the mascot and more!
