You can take a detour further west to the sandy Lankidden Cove, and the return route is a level walk from Treleaver through fields and farmyards. Along the way you can explore the Iron Age cliff forts at Chynalls and Lankidden, and enjoy the seascape from the former coastguard lookout at Black Head. According to legend, the cliffs at Beagles Point are where the pirate John Avery buried a treasure hoard, stolen from the Great Mogul of India’s ship the Gang-i-Sawai in 1695 – but no-one has ever found it. Refreshments are available at pubs and cafés in Coverack. Parts of this walk can be muddy in winter, and the route includes some steep sections at Chynalls Cliff and above Beagles Point.
