Commercial Lines Producer – Position Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Commercial Lines Producer provides sales and service to clients’ changing insurance needs by selling
Commercial and Personal Lines insurance.
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Commercial Lines Producer reports to Scott Preston and has functional relationships with other
managers and staff within the company.

Maintains an agreed upon level of new/renewal sales;
Seeks out new business at every available opportunity;
Responds to client phone, mail, email, fax, or in-person enquiries and provides solutions;
Maintains accurate and timely client records in TAM;
Provides quotes for clients using rate manuals, online manuals, and accepted underwriting
practices, etc.;
Responds to insurer enquiries about policy holders;
Uses superior communication skills to probe customers to determine current and future needs;
Researches the best coverage for clients, using all known factors, including pricing, coverage,
and claims service; recommends products based on this analysis;
Explains the features, advantages, and benefits of all lines of business;
Adheres to internal and external underwriting policies; seeks approval for risks outside of
authority;
Provides first response to claims reported, and adheres to established procedures to ensure
timely reporting and follow up;
Adheres to established office procedures for the handling and safekeeping of monies and
revenue inventory;
Keeps insurance licence current by maintaining required continuing education credits, and
maintains compliance with all Insurance Act provisions;
Takes full responsibility for accounts receivables of own book of business (see below)
Carries out other duties essential to the position as directed by their Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The incumbent will be based out of the Brentwood Bay office. Minimum hours of work will be agreed
upon between the Manager and the incumbent. Many activities will take place after ‘normal’ work
hours (e.g. evenings and weekends) with no extra compensation including (but not limited to): industry
events, company events, meetings with prospects and insureds, etc. Will be required to join a number
of organizations and attend their meetings, e.g. non-profits, service groups, networking clubs, etc.
Physical Demands
The incumbent will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause
muscle strain. There will also be some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
Environmental Conditions
The incumbent will have to manage a number of tasks at one time, and will be interrupted frequently to
meet the needs and requests of clients. The environment will be busy, sometimes noisy, and the
incumbent will need excellent organizational and time and stress management skills to complete the
required tasks.
Sensory Demands
These include use of the computer, which may cause eyestrain and occasional headaches. The office
may be noisy and busy, making it difficult to concentrate.
Mental Demands
The incumbent will deal with a stressful environment as some of the clients may be frustrated and
require immediate services.

ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE/COMMISSIONS

Agency Bill policy premiums must be received by the agency within the time frame given by the
individual insurer. If premium is not collected, any earned premium will be the responsibility of
the producer (the amount will be deducted from any potential bonus).
Direct Bill policy premiums: if the producer collects any premium for a direct bill account, it must
be submitted to the agency immediately.
Commissions will be calculated and set forth in the agreement. A monthly salary will be paid as
per the agreement, and commissions earned in excess will contribute to an annual bonus
calculated at per the agreement.
The agency owns the business portfolio.
