This is a classically formal design, symmetrically balanced down the long axis,
with just a hint of a contemporary feel (4-37).

Clearly, outdoor living is invited here, and the pools and pergolas possess an
ornamental quality.
Application
Not every property could sustain so much formal structure or would be suitable
for this degree of elegance. Where there is ample space and where architecture
and taste run to the formal, such a design will work.
Planting
Various ornamental grasses, lavender, roses, and arborvitae, with highlights of
Cornus alba, constitute the majority of plants here. A white Wisteria climbs up
one pergola, a purple Wisteria up the other.
