The Elie Wiesel Foundation Prize in Ethics Essay Contest 2017 The Elie Wiesel Foundation Prize in Ethics Essay Contest, now in its 28th year, challenges students to analyze urgent ethical issues. The Foundation has chosen to hold the contest for the fourth year at the high school level with MiamiDade County Public Schools. Students a r e encouraged to write thought-provoking essays that raise questions, single out issues and are rational arguments for ethical action. ELIGIBILITY High school juniors and seniors in MiamiDade County Public Schools. SUBMISSION Each school must evaluate their students’ essays and select thetop twoschool site winners. The school must submit the winning students’ essays to the District essay competitionbyMarch 17,2017. All school-site winning essays must be submitted to the Department of Social Sciences and Language Arts/Reading, 1501 NE 2nd. Avenue, Suite 326 B, Miami, Florida 33132 or via FAX 305 995-1492. A cover page must be included and contain the following information: Student name, student ID, student address, grade level, student phone #, school’s name, principal’s name, teacher’s name and teacher’s phone #. TOPIC Throughout history there have been an untold number of violations of human values and ideals. All too often they have resulted in genocide. Examples include the Holocaust during World War II, the “ethnic cleansing” in the former Republic of Yugoslavia and Rwanda, and more recently the refugee crises stemming from Civil War in Syria. Analyze the following quote by Professor Elie Wiesel, which was part of his acceptance speech when he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986.
