Ms. Dore & Ms. Lyons Best wishes to Shountrade National School Choir who will compete in Cork International Choral Festival taking place in City Hall, Cork on April 27th. The choir consists of members of 3rd, 4th, 5th & 5th classes. These pupils have been busy practising and have achieved an excellent standard. They will perform Dúlaman and The Birds Lament. Returning to Heritage Centre @ 3:30pm Total Limerick Clean-Up The pupils of Shountrade National School were very busy with their litter pickers and sweeping brushes in March! The school community took some time out to tidy up the school environs. We gathered and swept all morning! Everybody enjoyed this very worthwhile and valuable exercise. Thank you to Ms. Ryan who is our TLC Co-ordinator. Standardised Tests The Standardised Tests will take place on the last week of May and first week of June. It is imperative that your child is not absent during these weeks and that they present at school well rested. After a busy year we have submitted our Science & Maths project to Discover Primary Science. Pupils have participated in Design & Make activities, Living Things & Technology programmes, as well as Primary School Biology, Chemistry and Physics experiments. Our project is very impressive and we are very excited about Science in Shountrade. Our thanks to Ms. Walsh, our Science Co-Ordinator, for leading this initiative. Activities & Sports Shountrade National School will have a fun filled week beginning May 4 th and ending May 10th. Activities, Sports, Team Building Games and Obstacle courses will be undertaken by students from 11 co’clock onwards each day. Parents are invited to an aerobics class with Ciarán Lyons to open Active Week – Wednesday 9:15am. Aerobics for Parents will take place in the Halla @ 9:15am on Wednesday and Ciarán will teach aerobics to all class groups as the day progresses. This year we have an added adventure organised – Compass Club. ALL students of Shountrade National School will be going on a trip to Curraghchase Forest where Coillte Compass Club will organise a range of Outdoor and Adventure activities. This trip is being partly sponsored by the school and activities including bus will cost €10 per pupil. Our usual range of activities – Team Building, Soccer Tournament, Circuits etc. will also take place throughout the week. On Friday, May 6th our Back Pack Project will culminate in a Bake Sale for Mary’s eals. Students of 4th – 6th will bake cakes, buns and biscuits and all students will have an opportunity to purchase these fine goods. All proceeds will go to Mary’s Meals. We learned that €15 will feed a child in Malawi and Liberia for one year! It is very important that we think of the wider community! First Holy Communion - May 21st 10:30am (Children in Church by 10:15am) The students of 2nd Class are preparing for First Holy Communion. Prayers are learned and practices in the Holy Trinity Church are underway. We know this will be a very special day for our pupils and we ask them to keep us all in their prayers always. Thank you to Mrs. Fitzgerald for her hard work and thak you to our parents who have been committee members throughout the year – Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. Neville and Mrs. Ruppin-Gilitenane. Shountrade National School will compete in Div. 1 15-a-side. Our first match is agianst Courtenay NCW on Thu. @ 1pm Adare GAA field. Our girls will compete in Div 2 Camogie. Fixtures to be announced. Congrats to all who competed in Mini-7’s Boys & Girls. Our thanks to Mr. O’Connell & Mr. Hickey for their continued promotion of sport in our school. German & French Pupils of 6th enjoyed a week of German classes and continue to attend French classes. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience two European languages at Primary School.
