BCC Accreditation Affirmed
The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association
of Schools and Colleges, in its recent meeting determined that BCC has addressed concerns
raised in an earlier review. During a November site visit, commissioners reviewed whether the
college had resolved deficiencies noted during the Spring 2015 comprehensive review. And, in
its January meeting, the commission determined that BCC meets those standards.
This is wonderful news for BCC. In its letter to President Tomaneng the commission acknowledged BCC for “sharing the values and the work of accreditation to ensure educational
quality and to support student success.”
Thanks to everyone who made this possible and for helping us to continue our legacy of
“Transforming Lives”. A link to the final copy can be found on our Accreditation website.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
ACTIVITIES CONTINUE
Black History Month activities continue through the month of February. The month-long
celebration of African American culture and history opened in a celebration with traditional
African drumming and homage to African ancestors. Speakers recognized the contributions
of African Americans in the United States. The opening celebration was highlighted by spoken word performances by BCC students and alumni. An African Soul event featured BCC
staff Ramona Butler and Karen Shields participating in a traditional West African celebration
dance along with BCC students. Black History month events planned for the remainder of the
month include a screening of the highly acclaimed documentary “13”, as well as a discussion
about current events and their impacts on the African American community led by hip hop
journalist Davey D.

President’s Circle Luncheon
President Tomaneng hosted the first President’s Circle gathering of her presidency. The President’s Circle is a group of BCC supporters who, over the years,
have helped sustain the college through generous financial donations. President
Tomaneng recognized those donors at a special luncheon on Valentines Day to
honor their commitment to BCC and to encourage continued support. The highlight of the luncheon, as always, were BCC students. Alumna, Samantha Rushing
and student Ambassadors Regina Moreno Hernandez and Lorenzo Lewis told the
group about their experiences at BCC. Donors got an up close and candid look at
how their donations translate into real life success for our hardworking students.
