Following a rigorous tender process, Smiths Detection systems were chosen for their unique features and reliability over a ten year life cycle. “We decided to go ahead with Smiths Detection because they provide us with a complete solution to our varied requirements,” commented Khaled Al-Saif, General Manager, KGAC. The contract includes a range of low and high energy X-ray equipment for checking airport cargo and baggage; cars at land border points; and larger vehicles and containers. Dr Mohamed Ismail Al-Ansari, Chairman and CEO of GCS added, “With this new equipment, the first of its kind in Kuwait, the aim is definitely to raise the bar higher by providing increased levels of security and faster movement of goods at all the major land borders as well as sea and airports in Kuwait.” Smiths Detection 3 Customer focus New X-ray concept developed for US Government Agency When a major US Government Agency wanted a mobile X-ray unit to handle larger packages, there was nothing on the market to meet the brief. Smiths Detection took on the challenge and, with limited speculative investment, designed and developed the ScanVan in record time – less than a year from contract to concept, regulatory approval and delivery to the customer. Led by the Smiths Detection facility in Alcoa, Tennessee, it was a joint project with Research & Development (R&D) teams in Wiesbaden, Germany and Edgewood, Maryland. The sales team mapped out the overall requirements together with associated technical specifications and target costs; and from there, R&D went on to develop the equipment. This was a truly global effort with everyone involved delivering excellent results; and ultimately providing the customer with a specialised product to solve their problem, built to a high specification and delivered on time and within budget. 4 Smiths Detection Customer focus Copenhagen Airport deploys state of the art passenger screening system To meet the new 2015 EU regulations aimed at increasing the detection of non‑metallic threat items, Copenhagen Airport has introduced new passenger screening equipment which not only increases security and operational efficiency, but also improves the working environment and customer satisfaction. Three different scanning systems were assessed at the checkpoint but one stood out – the eqo from Smiths Detection. It scored the highest marks in all the different areas tested including ease of integration into the checkpoint; total process speed; false alarm rate; and user and passenger friendliness. On entering the checkpoint, passengers are first screened with a standard metal detector. If this raises a real or random alarm, the person is directed to the eqo to resolve the query. Here, the less intrusive process, open environment and direct communication with the screening operators appeals to both staff and passengers. “Customer service and satisfaction levels are very important to us. The dialogue between the passenger and the security staff at the checkpoint is vital to the overall flow, efficiency and customer service experience.” added Johnnie Müller. The eqo system was initially integrated into 18 checkpoints and was, at that point, the biggest eqo installation in Europe. Further scanners have since been ordered. Smiths Detection 5 Exceptional capability through technology Unrivalled range of technology From screening airport passengers to protecting deployed troops and emergency response teams by identifying chemicals or trace explosives, Smiths Detection offers the widest selection of threat detection technology on the market.
