Exercise Options Sheet
Length 30 min Introduction/Warm Up
• Model 1 or 2 of the review questions on the VS.8 task cards.
• After modeling 1 or 2 of the review questions, show students how and where to record their answers
•
for each question.
To warm up, students will practice some of the exercises off the “Common Classroom Exercises” that
are shown up on the board. This is a good way to get students warmed up, while also practicing the
exercises they will use during the review game.
Implementation
Scoot
1. Give each student a task card (go in numerical order) face down on his or her desk. Each student will
also have a recording sheet and stand behind his or her chair pushed in, to indicate they are ready.
2. Explain to students that they are going to play a game called “Scoot” to review the VS.8 knowledge.
3. When the music starts to play, students will flip over the task card on their desk, read and answer the
question, flip the task card back over, and start doing one of the “Common Classroom Exercises.”
4. Once all students are exercising (indicating they have finished the question), the teacher will stop the
music, say, “scoot” and students will move to the next numerical task card (allow about 30 seconds for
student to answer each question).
5. When the music starts to play, students can flip over their next task card and repeat until all questions
have been answered by every student (they should finish back at their own seat).
Cool Down
•
Once students have returned to their original seats, they will do a slow, calm, mindful cool down that
consists of taking deep breaths and sitting down in slow motion.
Modifications
•
For students with emotional disabilities, who sometimes have trouble with self-control, remind them of
the mantra “my body, my space” and that they are to remain in their area, even when they “scoot” to
the next card. For any students who have trouble following the rules, they will be asked to sit out.
